Preop diet question

Recommended Posts

Ok so I started a preop diet and have the choice of two shakes and a high Protein diner or follow some examples of dinners and Snacks. Question. If I am taking a shake in the morning and a shake in the afternoon then the dinner I am still feeling really hungry. Is there any fat free and still shrink my liver snacks I could try?

My NUT has things like SF Jello and Popsicles and V8. There are a few other things too, however she emphasized if I needed have the Snacks I needed to be calling her and letting her know exactly what I was eating and that I still needed to come in between 800-1000cal.

My plan allowed for an additional shake after dinner if needed. My nutritionist also said I was welcome to throw in an extra salad. She also said that if I was REALLY feeling like I HAD TO HAVE SOMETHING, I could have an egg or a serving of almonds, but it would be better not to.

I'm not saying that this is what YOU should do, but that's the advice I was given.

So can we have sugar free Jello if we are on the liquid diet ..my surgery is Wednesday..

Yes you can. My nut allows it. Its been my savior when the dairy got too much for me. My surgery is on tuesday so you'll be fine. Jell-O makes a strawberry-kiwi flavor that doesnt even taste sugar free!

i could have sf Jello up until the evening before my sugar however I was instructed to ingest nothing that has red dye in it on the day before surgery.

Same here. My nut wants me to have regular Jello to put the sugar back in my body.

Its so weird how everyones pre op diet varies

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
