Potted meat? Deviled ham?

Recommended Posts

I've read some of Shelly's recipes on the egg face site. She said she makes pot toast for her family and takes her portion and puts it in food processor to make it more puréed consistency.

Most likely yes, but from a nutritional stand point, I would stay away from them. Full of sodium, fat and organ meats. For example a can of potted meat has 160 calories, 0 carbs and 11 grams of Proteins, BUT has 840 grams of sodium and 12g of fat, 3.5 of which is saturated fat. There are better choices out there that will give you the nutrition you need, but not the salt and fat.

I looked into the potted meat too but ultimately it is too much fat and not enough Protein for me. But it's personal preference...I'm sure it will be fine for your sleeve, it's just a matter of how well it will fit in your overall nutritional goals.

Thank you! I hadn't noticed the fat or sodium content before!

I started eating this and then started buying beech nut brand baby food meat jars (about 2.5 oz each). You can add your own seasonings and eat it like you would a potted meat product without the added fat, sodium, and preservatives. Sometimes when I want a bit more pizazz I will mix a bit of deviled chicken into the baby food to add flavor.

If you are allowed crackers a couple go well with this purée. It is a standard for my lunch. I tell people it is pâté lol.
