Hey -

the only time I ever have anything remotely resembling "dumping" is when I get very dehydrated. I know it doesn't seem to make any sense - but part of the cure is to drink more Water - and drink it now.

If you need to - use some flavored water or something - but get liquids into your system - at least 2-3 litres a day.

Hope you feel better.

Dumping Syndrome only happens to RNY patients. Its not an issue with the lapband. I am not sure exactly what causes it with the RNY patients. I think it has something to do with the sugar hitting the re-routed intestines, but I could be wrong.

Hey Ousooner:

I was given a pamphlet on dumping syndrome after I was banded, the only thing is it does not give a whole lot of info., I was told by the nurse before I was released that dumping syndrome could happen, I was just wondering if it only happens right after or it can happen anytime.

cheers

I'm with OUSooner - I believe that true "dumping" is due to the fact that part of the digestive tract has been removed or bypassed - and when high-sugar or fat foods hit the newly shortened system - it reacts badly and "dumps" them thru the system.

Unless you are sucking down unusually high-sugar or fat laden foods that your body is not ready to tolerate - you should be ok.

But drink Water. My body reacts in a similar fashion when I get dehydrated.

Since I was my doctor's first band patient, his nurses gave me tons of literature and info that had/has nothing to do with the band. They've since learned better, LOL.

Wow Sherri... were you banded by Dr. Davies and Birch in Edmonton? Why you would get something about DUMPING is beyond me, cause it's not something we get. They should have given you better information. Did you do any research on your own?

How long have been banded?

nevermind, I see it was about a year ago, is that right? How have you done so far? Tell us stuff about yourself! What kind of problems are you having?

*scratches head*....ummmm....actual "dumping" does not happen to lapband patient.....perhaps they have a phamplet they hand out to Bariatric patients and they lumped banding in with it.

Dumping is most certainly something that you do not need to worry about.

Hi Argon:

Yes I had my surgery about a year ago and I have lost around 65 pounds and have not lost in some time now. My husband is in the military and we were posted from Alberta to Ontario, a very small base here with very little doctors, and virtually none that know anything about lapband fills. I am going to Ottawa in the new year, I found a doctor there that will do a fill for $75.00 which is great.

Regarding the dumping syndrome, when I was discharged a dietician came into my room and gave me a bunch of info, I had my surgery on wednesday morning and they sent me home thursday morning and I was feeling pretty rough and pretty much everything she said I did not absorb.

I only saw Dr.Davey 2 times after my surgery, once for my postop and once for a fill, he would come once a month to the hospital in Bonnyville and see patients.

I hope that gives you a bit of info.

Cheers

How much do you have to lose?

That's crazy... you must have been among their first and that's why you got such poor info/support? I hope so, but that's still no excuse..

I had surgery on a Wed morning, and left early Wed. afternoon, so that's not strange at all.

How do you eat? I mean, how much, how often, etc? Any problems? If there's anything wrong, you'll likely HAVE to go back to AB to get him to fix it, the guy you're getting the fill from is just that (a fill Dr.)

There probably isn't, and you just need a fill though.

When did you get your first fill?

Sorry, can't help you out. I don't really even know what it means. I know it never came up in conversation with my surgeon.:)

Hi Argon:

I had my first fill 2 months after my surgery, he told me I was doing just fine which I thought was weird it made me wonder why I had the surgery LOL!. The eating thing, well...... I usually eat 3 times a day with a small snack inbetween, I honestly dont know how to eat, pretty sad, I am hopeing to get back on track I really want to lose probably another 65 or 70 pounds that would be great. Can you give me an idea what you eat in a day? I appreciate any info you can give me. I was having a few probs but found out yesturday they are not related to my banding.

Cheers

Sherri

CLOE: it's a thing that RNY patients get.

Sherri: I know Davies/Birch used to be only RNY surgeons, but now do the Lapband. (I was on the waiting list to see them.. still waiting for that call! LOL) Maybe this is more the fault of the dietician not knowing, or just mixing up the info. I hope so!

Normally, I don't have Breakfast. I am usually much tighter in the AM, and not very hungry, and if I was, it wouldn't go down well. I do have an extra large coffee w/ cream and sugar, every (weekday) morning. (this morning I *did* have a Protein drink, because I have some samples, and wanted to see how this one tasted .. it was good, I might get some more!) If I DO have something for Breakfast, it would be something like 7 miniwheats or a handful of some kind of Cereal.

At 1pm I have lunch. Today I'm having half an avocado, and a couple turkey pepperoni sticks. *edited to add: 2 sticks were too much... now it's kind of stuck!*

For supper, I don't know yet. Last night I had some leftover veggie lasagna.. maybe the equivalent of a 3x3x3" piece. Later that evening I had a mini bag of popcorn.< /p>

I don't usually have Snacks (during the work day) just because I never bring them. Probably a good idea, but since I don't think of it, it's probably better that I don't.

What problems were you having? (if you don't mind me asking... unless you're SURE they're not band related)

more questions for you: you asked about dumping... have you experienced anything like that? Maybe you don't know the terms we use... maybe you've PB-ed, and just didn't know what to call it?

(just in case) *PB - productive burp - say you eat too much, or too fast, or something, it disagrees with you, you burp, and pretty much burp up what you just ate. Not like vomitting, cause it's not stomach acid-y like vomit*

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
