5 days post op and STARVING! Help!

Recommended Posts

So it's dinner time in my house and I am SO hungry I want to cry!! My husband and girls had turkey burgers earlier and I SWEAR I wanted to ****** one and run down the street with it in my mouth!! I keep looking at my 'day 3-9' food sheet praying it changes to mashed potatoes and gravy!! I've been drinking these dang Protein Shakes, jell-o, strained Soup (gag), broth and green tea until I'm ready to scream!

Please give me some other 'food ideas'! Anything! I know it's mind over matter but I am really struggling!!

I would run out of the house right now and buy some prilosec. You aren't hungry. It's acid reflux. There ought to be a law against Drs discharging people without a PPI.

It's the wrong one, then. Get a different one. YOU ARE NOT TRULY HUNGRY! It's not freaking possible!

I don't know, maybe it's head hunger, but there's nothing you can do about that. YOUR STOMACH DOES NOT WANT food.

I have to respectfully disagree... Some may "feel"

No hungry but it is a false statement to say that everyone feels no hungry that it just acid or head hunger. Some people will be hungry to a certain extent it IS possible. and your body does need nourishment

I can be satisfied with a little deli meat or string cheese... It doesn't take much. I usually wake hungry and have a small fuzzy navel drink and a boiled egg.... I am good for hours!

Hey, I am on day four of my liquid diet, now days 5-7 I'm suppose to be on full liquid diet, at least you are eating creamed soup, being in the hospital I'm only getting for Breakfast, lunch, dinner chicken broth, Jello, sorbet, crystal light, milk. I've give anything for fine creamed soup. But before I had my surgery I hate the Protein Drinks (All of them), so my nutritionist told me to eat once a day at night a small piece if chicken breast (baked, boiled, rotisserie) & veggies (no peas, corn). During the day I drank 1 cup of whole milk & my unlimited things on my list. That's how I got by. I hope this helps. So now I don't eat until to I go to full liquids.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
