Hi all, I have been lurking for a few months now, but since I have a date I thought it was about time I introduced myself. I am really excited for this new journey. I am a little nervous, but mostly excited. I have an appointment with the surgeon on Monday so hopefully he will be able to relieve any final concerns then. Just out of curiosity, how long did people take off of work after the surgery?

Thanks.;)

Welcome to LBT!!! Glad you finally spoke up!!

I no longer work outside the home, but could have gone back to a non physical position within a week. Any lifting etc, I would take 2 anyway. I was walking within the hour after surgery, flew home on day 3, and was shopping and doing normal household things from then on. Cutting and loading firewood within 2-3 weeks. For me, this was not a big painful surgery. Hope yours is just as easy!!!

Feel free to ask any ??? you may have, we have a wide array of experiences here!!

Once again---welcome!!!

Kat

I wasn't working at the time of surgery...I had just given birth to my youngest so was on maternity leave but I was performing normal household duties, lifting up kids, chopping firewood, cleaning the house within about 4 days of surgery...the only issues i had was a persistant acute shoulder pain (left over gas from surgery) but other than that no probs...Best of luck with your surgery check in often and let us know your progress.

:o

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
