Not comparing weightloss to others

Recommended Posts

You're doing great! I've lost 46.5lbs at the 8 week mark, but I can guarantee you that I have a lot more to lose than you do. So personally I think you are doing awesome!

I am 19 days out and have lost 14 pounds after the surgery, 19 total with the 5 I lost pre-op. I have about 85 total to lose. Of course it would be awesome to have lost like 30 by now, but I will take what I can get LOL. I know I will get there eventually and hopefully won't have as much lose skin. You are doing great! Keep it up!

Man it's hard not to! I've had a pretty hard time in the three weeks and I think my weightloss is pretty good. Literally 21 lbs in 21 days. Truly, I'm fine with that.

But then you log in and see someone whose breezed through everything and lost 50 lbs in 6 weeks. (Halfway to goal which means she had 100 to lose just like me)

I'm positive I won't lose 30 more lbs in the next three weeks since the dreaded stall is about to find me most likely, and even though inWAS just fine with my weightloss, now I'm dissapointed. Lol. I try not to read those threads but sometimes it just creeps up on ya.

So. I'd love to hear from others whose weight isn't just falling off them.

So true! It is hard not to compare. I am down 20# in 7 weeks (haven't weighed in over a week). After losing 12# in the first 10 days, I've only lost 8 in the past 6 weeks. The scale won't move for several days, then I will be down a half pound or so. Working out, getting 100 oz of Water, 80 g of Protein, and obsessing over food these days.... the math isn't adding up, but I did this for a lifestyle change, not a quick fix. However, it would be nice if the scale could help reassure me that I'm doing this right!

I shared this on another thread but thought it fit well here as well! My doctor told me from the beginning that the sleeve is considered a success if we lose 60% of our excess weight! He told me I was going to have to work hard to finish it off and get to goal! I think if we all calculate how much of that 60% we have already lost then the sleeve is doing what it was promised to do for us! I am only 11 days postoperative and I have lost 13 pounds since surgery. That is already 15% of my 60%. That is awesome for only 11 days!!

In theory that is a great way too look at it! However it can be difficult as many of us can lose the weight quickly it was keeping it off that was an issue---

Is it hard to keep it off with the sleeve? I was hoping it would be easier. I have lost weight plenty of times and always eventually regained it! I was hoping the sleeve would help me maintain , which to me is much harder than losing the weight is! If I could maintain even 60% less of my excess weight for the rest of my life because of this sleeve I will be very happy and feel like this was all worth it! Don't get me wrong though, I do want to get to my goal weight and would love to maintain there if I can!

Your all doing good! I myself read all these wonderful successful losses by 5 or 6 months, and thought for sure mine would be the same! NOT!! Im grateful for the 12# pre-op, and and 17# post op..being a month out, its really not that bad! Its more than what i would have lost without it....i try to look at the good, and not dwell...we will get there! Keep your heads up! Look forward, and never look back!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
