kdnhk 3 Posted March 23, 2013 Has anyone had to get checked for ulcers, my Dr said if he finds anything he will recommend gastric bypass instead of sleeve
CharmingTortoise 83 Posted March 23, 2013 I had my EGD on March 5. It wasn't bad at all. They give you sleepy meds and you don't even know what's going on. By the time I woke up I had no clue anything had happened other than I was groggy. Some people get a little throat irritation but I didn't even have that. My doctor ended up finding a hiatal hernia that he said he'd fix when he went in to do the VSG. I'm wondering if it would matter where the ulcer is as to whether they would do the bypass rather than the sleeve. My simplistic mind thinks that if it's in a spot they are going to remove anyway maybe that would be okay?? I'm not really sure.
erp 2,016 Posted March 23, 2013 Has anyone had to get checked for ulcers' date=' my Dr said if he finds anything he will recommend gastric bypass instead of sleeve[/quote'] The endoscopy is part of the standard screening process. Many of us had one prior to surgery. I do find it a bit odd about the bypass decision since ulcers are treatable. Do you know why your doc would make you switch? Several people on here have had ulcers, taken their antibiotics and then been sleeved. Good luck.
kdnhk 3 Posted March 23, 2013 He basically said if you have GERD before a sleeve it will only get worse and there is little that can be done. Seemed odd to Me many people take meds for it and if you are careful should be manageable
JennyNH 24 Posted March 23, 2013 I just had mine yesterday. The dr found that I have mild gastritis and prescribed omeprazole and said it should clear up in a couple of weeks. I was out for only about 10 minutes but when I woke up I felt like I had the best nights sleep.< /p>
