Mastiff_mama 171 Posted March 23, 2013 I am almost 5 weeks out and the cravings are bad. I've been completely quit for a few months... I played around with cigs before because I was on chantix and could. Now I want a cigarette and a big cup of coffee. Part of me wants to just because I do and part because it would help me not eat, but hell, I smoked for 30 years and was fat as everything! It's just in my head! I've smoked once or twice when I am around a smoker and it sucks... I keep reminding myself how expensive it is, how bad it makes you smell, and mostly how unhealthy it is! I don't wanna lose a lot of weight and have my face extra wrinkled because of cigarettes! Had to vent... Needed to vent. Cigarettes and food are powerful vices! MrsG 329 Posted March 23, 2013 Aww! It's ok! I understand completely! I quit in August and had surgery in January. Ever since surgery I have wanted one so bad! We have to stay strong Mastiff mama!! We can do it! I think of all the months of not smoking being thrown out the window if I gave in. And I know if I give in and have 1 I'm screwed. I keep telling myself the same things...it makes your clothes, hair and breath smell, it makes me short of breath when exercising, it adds wrinkles, it kills your lungs and last but not least they are soooo expensive! Keep reminding yourself of these things, that's what I do. We can do it!
nightingale2u 42 Posted March 23, 2013 I quit smoking smoking 6 days ago and have been on CHantix for 2 weeks... I had quit for 5 years and started again in a time of high stress on year ago. It was horrible the last time I quit and even with Chantix it is still pretty bad! I wish I could have quit earlier... it will only be a total of 2 weeks prior to my surgery which is not great. It is a powerful... destructive... stinky... expensive and terribly unhealthy habit... I tell myself this over and over and over...lol. I'm praying that I don't have complications ... and I have learned my lesson... this will be the last time I go through the torture of quitting! We'll show those sticks who is boss! TexasMiss 314 Posted March 23, 2013 I quit cold turkey in November after 15? yrs. I got a craving one time about a month and a half ago, and after one drag I wanted to puke. It tasted horrible! When I had surgery, the girl in the next room kept opening the window in our shared bathroom and smoking. Everytime I got a whiff of it I would start dry heaving! I would have never thought just the smell would have done that to me. Hang in there girl...stay strong...you can do it!

Mastiff_mama 171 Posted March 23, 2013 I used the blu electric cigs to wane me from cigs. I do have an electronic cig that has no nicotine... They do help! So funny how the vapor gives you the ability to blow "smoke" wonderful

superchica879 58 Posted March 23, 2013 I also smoked for many years and quit cold turkey 4 weeks before my surgery. It scared me when the dr. informed me of the risks of smoking after the sleeve and also he would not do the surgery of I did smoke.....that made me wanna quit because I wanted the surgery so bad. After my surgery though I can not even stomach the smell of smoke, my husband still smokes and it smells so bad at times I feel sick. I hope I continue to feel this way about it because I never want to start back up again! Good luck, you got this
Jennifer616 48 Posted March 23, 2013 Hey sleevers. I had surgery on March 6 of this year and coincidently that was the last day I had a cigarette. So far I am learning that food and cigarettes are both very mental and I am extremely thankful for that!!!! At times I do you just want to try one or have a drag but then I think about how far I have come and I do not want to lose my 17 days but I am cigarette free!!! 1 TexasMiss reacted to this

nightingale2u 42 Posted March 24, 2013 Hey Jennifer... do you think smoking up till your surgery made for a tougher recovery? I am just worried that 2 weeks is not enough before my revision. On day 7 so actually it will be 15 days smoke free. Bonking myself on the head for not quitting sooner!
