Oh yea, and I don't think this is the right section for this.. should this be moved to the My sleeve story section? Is that something I can do, or does an admin need to do it for me?

My wife is going to go to the store tomorrow and get me some things to drink. I really like Oceanspray no sugar added cranberry / grape or raspberry. She's also going to pick up some ice pops.

Now' date=' my doctor told me not to worry about sugar free stuff for the first stage. Also, something that kind of surprising was he said he only left 10% of my stomach.

I'm not really having any trouble with the milk, it's just the consistency that is kind of turning me off.. pre-surgery I loved it that way. I will try to avoid it though if that seems to be an issue. I wasn't told anything about the gasx. I guess I should look into that too.

Thanks for all of your comments. It really helps having people who know what I am going through.[/quote']

Only 10% really?? Wow! Is this typical with all sleeves?

I didn't think so.. but that is what my doctor said he left in. It kinda freaked me out.. I was expecting them to only remove 70-80% but he's really good.. maybe I had an extra large stomach... lol

It's quite a shock isn't it - the changes and feelings that happen post op? Glad to hear you are feeling a little better:) I am 12 days ahead of you in the recovery phase. What they say about it getting better all the time is true. I have now had 2 days in a row that I felt pretty good and didn't find it necessary to take a nap. The head hunger has subsided quite a bit and I even have to make myself eat sometimes.

Congratulations on making the move to have this surgery and I hope you feel better with each passing day.

Thanks,

I am doing really well.. I really want to ride my motorcycle, but the doc said wait 6 weeks, so May 1 is the day. I was able to comfortably eat a bit of ricotta bake last night which was nice.

I've been good without naps for the most part. I was laid off a few months back so, it's mostly dealing with boredom, and frustration of not being able to lift heavy stuff. My wife is so supportive, but it sucks to have to ask her to take in the groceries, fill the aquarium move stuff, and so on.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
