acummins73 134 Posted March 22, 2013 Hello everyone, my name is Alicia and I had my VGS surgery on March 7 2013 so I just completed my 2nd week. So far I have lost twenty pounds. I am very excited and feel truly blessed with this surgery. I decided to post because I don't know any one that has had the sleeve besides me and I would like to hear from others about their experiences (I would also like to share mines also) My sister and one of my best friends had the gastric bypass but I'm finding that their experiences are different than mine. I'm still on my high liquid protein/puree stage of the diet and will be on that until April 11th. I'm looking forward to getting to know every one better. I do have a few questions and I would really appreciate it if any one can share their experiences. Do any of you still have food cravings? I know it's head hunger lol. I don't have any hunger pains or anything during my cravings. I'm just making sure I'm not going crazy still craving foods. Also has any one had any issues with being lactose intolerant? My RD told me not to worry about that because most sleeve patients don't become lactose intolerant. I'm starting to think that's not the case with me. I become very gassy and bloated when I drink any Protein Shake milk. . . even nonfat pudding. I also have been getting headaches for the past two days. I do a lot of walking and I'm wondering if I'm not getting enough fuel in my body. Also some times I feel full and then other times I can drink a Protein shake or have a pudding and an hour later my body or maybe it's my head, is telling me that I need more fuel in my body. One last thing and I hope it's not to much TMI, in the beginning is it normal not to have a bowel movement for a few days. I think I'm freaking out more about this than anything. Thank you for taking the time to read my post and again I'm looking forward to getting to know you all better. 3 ProudGrammy, VivaDiva01 and misslady reacted to this
Ms.AntiBand 2,984 Posted March 22, 2013 There are quite a few sleever who have become lactose intolerant. We never know what foods we can no longer tolerate until we try them and find out Welcome Alicia.. Glad to have you here on your healthy journey. I'm also sure others will help with all your questions 1 misslady reacted to this
acummins73 134 Posted March 22, 2013 Thank you. I thought I was doing something wrong. Even though I'm following the diet. The thought of drinking milk makes my stomach turn and I use to love milk lol. I find it easier to get the Protein down when I drink the Unjury chicken broth. It takes me forever to drink any that are mixed with milk. It's hard enough getting a 16.9 oz of Water down. Feels like my stomach just can't fit it all. SpaceDust 585 Posted March 22, 2013 Regarding the bowels question, yes it's normal. That's often true with any abdominal surgery, since you haven't had anything solid for a bit Additionally, watch for Constipation, as the pain meds can cause that. This is the voice of surgical experience talking, oy! 2 ProudGrammy and misslady reacted to this

Jeannine 12 Posted March 23, 2013 Hi Alicia, I was sleeved the day before you. I definitely do get hungry. Some of it is head hunger but some is physical for me. I am lucky so am drinking Protein Shakes with milk and having no problem..so far.... I find I crave Protein and am allowed soft foods now so tuna, eggs hummus, mashed Beans are my friends. I have had a little Constipation but stool softeners really helped me. I am getting far less than 60 oz of Water in a day.

labellaskorpio 67 Posted April 6, 2013 I was sleeved on Mar 20 & so far I'm down 18 pounds! I can eat soft foods but only a couple of spoons then I'm full. I have cravings but not many and they pass quickly. My bowels didn't move until about a week after surgery but I've been good since. I still have pain on the left side under my big incision but my doc said it'll go away in a few more weeks. I can't get in 60 grams of Protein to save my life because I get full so quickly. My doc said as long as my intake progresses not to worry. 1 FLOUNDER27 reacted to this

I wasn't a big milk drinker prior to surgery, but after I was having cramps when I had my shakes. I switched to Smart Balance lactose free milk and I've been fine since. Are you on Prilosec or another PPI for acid? Good luck!
