I woke up with a sore throat this morning, surgery coming up on Tuesday. I figured it will have run its course by then, but just in case I called my surgeon's office to see if they had any suggestions to speed up healing to make sure I'm good to go. They took it really seriously and now I'm stuck waiting to find out if my dr is going to postpone surgery!!!!! It's driving me crazy, I feel so prepared to do this on Tuesday; I will be devastated if I have to wait ;-( Sorry just needed to vent, will keep you guys updated.

Oh no, I hope they don't postpone it for you either! I've been so worried about that myself, that would be just my luck..I'm getting sleeved in less then 2 weeks and everyone at my work is coming down with something and I'm so worried I will get sick right before my surgery! Best of luck to you..

Coldeeze and Airborne. They are just zinc and Vitamin C and really work to speed up getting over this kind of thing. Good luck!

400 mg of ibuprofen plus a regular strength tylenol work wonders on sore throats for me b/c you have the pain/inflammation combo that way. They are probably worried about intubating you with a sore throat but hopefully it will resolve quickly. Hope you feel better soon!

OP.. Please do NOT take ibuprofen until you speak to a doctor! Its an nsaid and most of us are not supposed to have them.

They sent me to an urgent care to get cleared for step; they said if my strep test is negative I'm good to go but if its positive we have to postpone. They swabbed me so now I'm just waiting!!!!

good point! sorry! I figured she wouldn't do anything without checking with the surgeon first, but this is a good warning pre-surgery--thank you.

Yeah...was just afraid in her zeal to improve that she could cause a surgery delay since its scheduled so soon.

Thanks for worrying about me, but I already had the ibuprofen thought and immediately realized it would be a bad idea :) I was negative for strep but did have an ear infection. They started me on antibiotics for that and said I would be good to go by Tuesday. All's well that ends well I guess!! Thanks for the help all :)

Well, it's not like I am uneducated about the process...lol! A lot of surgeons require you to stop NSAIDs 4 days before surgery, but it's really up to the surgeon. I was sharing my experience about what helps my sore throats and just assume everyone would of course check with the surgeon before doing what someone else does, but hopefully that goes without saying.

Sounds like all's well that ends well for you, OP--good luck with your surgery!

This would so happen to me! I'm getting sleeved in less than a week and crud is going around at work so I've bumped up my Vit. C. So far, so good.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
