Sleeved 3/18 - a bit overwhelmed

Recommended Posts

Surgery completed this past Monday. A little overwhelmed by eating/ drinking/ supplementation reqs right now. Trying to follow directions but result is lots of gas. Keep moving and seem to still do best with ice cubes. Afraid to eat too much too fast. Trying to hone in on feeling full sensation but my stomach is growling! Any recommendations or thoughts on this? Not too focused on the weight loss right now...assume that will come.

I got sleeved the 18th too! My biggest problem is I don't know my limits. I take 3 little sips of Water and hurt SO bad in my chest, I Weiner if I'm having a heart attack in that moment. I don't want to fill my stomach up, but don't know how much I can hold. I know it's all a learning process.. But it sure is frustrating!

Phew! I thought I was doing something wrong...I was told you should take three sips within 15 min...try that...it's hard because we are thirsty and definitely don't want to get dehydrated. That's why I've added the crushed ice. Are you hungry?

Hi I had mine Monday as well, am not hungry at all. Am just nervous because with pain med. I can not stay awake. I too find it impossible to drink the 1oz in15 min am thirsty, I have added ice chips. Also I wake up with a headache but as soon as I move around and take liquid in it goes away.. This is a bit overwhelming but all we can do know is be successful in the long run.

The feelings you all are describing are all normal. Getting the liquids and staying hydrated is your most important thing at this phase. The tiredness and headache are signs of dehydration or low Protein. If you can't drink easily you should try warmer fluids because it will reduce the internal swelling making it easier to get the Fluid in. Good luck and know it gets better.

I was sleeved on 1/14 and had some complications and stayed in the hospital twice as long as expected because no fluids would go down. What saved me was popsicles. I had a very hard time drinking a sip of anything every 7-10 minutes but found that sucking on a popsicle worked like a charm because it was so slow going down. My doctor told me one popsicle equals 2 ounces of liquid. You might want to try that until it becomes eaier to drink!

Agreed. Love Popsicles. Life saver!!!

My doc said that the intense gurgles should subside mostly at 2 weeks. I think it will be a lot easier to gauge fullness when that is gone.

I have found that if I take a deep breath when the gurgle pain or pain in the chest comes that it actually relieves this pain. Try it! It can't hurt and it has definetly helped me. I love the sugar free Popsicle I bite little pieces off of them and chew them while they melt in my mouth that way I get a little chewing sensation! I have managed to get 34 oz of fluids down each day so far plain Water is the easiest for me to get down at this point and I just keep a bottle right next to me at all times. Even when I wake up in the night I sip sip sip!

I was sleeved on march 13 and had real trouble drinking the Water so you know what - I am drinking diet snapple and diet cranberry juice and water downed Gatorade instead. water hurt to drink. burping, gas and a pain going down and right after. I so try it again each day to see if it's better but not yet. so I use other drinks and it's better than dehydration. (pee was starting to look dark till I found this solution. ). I also strain real Soups to drink the broth. better than straight broth and my kids eat the noodles, etc.

I had mine done on 3/05. My tap Water HURT so bad so my sister had me get bottled water and that was so much easier. Warm or room temp water was best. There was something in my hard water that my stomach didn't agree with. I was only getting about 20pz a day in until I went to filtered water. Now I am able to get in about 40-50oz daily. Small sips aee easier than gulping. Take your mouth full but take about 5 swallows to get it all down.

How's everyone dojng?????

Blah. I'm in the regretting stage. Not even really cause of my sleeve.. I just still don't feel good, and my husband doesn't get that I had major surgery a week ago. We have twins, and I'm taking care of them, and him, and me. Oh.. And I REALLY want some Easter candy. (no one freak out.. I'm not gonna do it). I just wish I had more help. Oh.. I'm down 35lbs since pre op diet, 23 since surgery!

I am good. Trying to get in all my Water and Protein daily. shakes make me gag! I can only do about 2-3TBSP of cottage cheese or such at a sitting-- so I know the sleeve is working lol. I started at 223 surgery date, now 209. Been walking on treadmill daily for at least a mile. Incisions still sore and covered in ugly belly bruises.

That sucks that your husband doesn't get it! But it sounds like your going well otherwise! Sure having to take care of the kids is keeping you moving and burning those calories!! Keep your head up! It will be worth it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
