15 days post op worst night ever

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved March 6th with gallbladder removal at the same time and was recovering remarkably well. Started doing a mile on the treadmill at 8 days out. Started back to work 2 weeks out. First day back went great until 4 pm. Left side started with dull ache muscle pain near the main incision where stomach was removed. Went home and crashed. Woke up sore and headed to work. Halfway there my side started really hurting again. Roughed it out until 1 pm and then had to go home. Called doc and they said it was normal to have muscle pain as it stretches. I hadn't taken pain meds since day two but had to take some when I got home. This pain was worse than any other I experienced. Laid down with heating pad for rest of day. Just before bed last night I had a few ounces of 1% milk and then took pain meds. I drank the 3 tsp all at once instead of slowly sipping it down. Worst decision EVER. Shortly there after stomach started burning and hurting. Some of the worst pain from pressure that I have experienced in my life. I was pacing and deep breathing. Literally thought I would pass out from the pain. Tried Prilosec and Gasx strip. Nothing stopped the pain. Finally became horribly nauseous and threw up pain meds. I can't explain how horrible this was. Pain subsided for a few minutes but kept coming back every 5-7 minutes. Took zofran for nausea and it dulled pain but still kept coming back. By now it's 2 am and I'm dozing off sitting up between pain episodes. Finally sipped 2 oz of Protein Drink and pain subsided. I am worried that throwing up and the extreme pressure in my stomach will have caused a leak. Everything was going picture perfect before that. Should I be concerned? Btw I will NEVER take pain meds other than Tylenol again. No amount of pain is worth what I went through last night. Sorry for the long post.

I'm so sorry. It sounds horrible! I would make an appt. to see the Dr., but I don't think your body is ready yet for all the activity. You had major surgery and its been less than 30 days. I would take it easy and rest. Good Luck!

Same story for me I was sleeved on March 4th about 10 days out right side started hurting with every movement, that's the side where they took out my stomach. At my 2 week post-op appointment and my surgeon said the same thing, it will be tender for 6 weeks or more. My job is very physical he gave me another week off for a total of 5 weeks and said to call if I need more.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
