Got my date of May 15th but not submitted to insurance yet

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Just wondering if this is normal - I've done all my preop stuff and my surgeon gave me a date of May 15th but they aren't submitting to insurance until after my April 11th appointment. I have United Healthcare and I've met all their requirements but part of me is still nervous they'll delay the approval and i'll not make my date of 5/15. I guess I was just wondering if this is how it's typically done and if anyone has had experience with United regarding how fast they approve.

Thanks

Missy

Hi Missy...I don't know if that is normal, but I know that some of the pre-op items have to be done within 30 days of the surgery. Just wanted to let you know I am also scheduled for May 15! I see the doctor on Monday. I am going to ask about my approval status then. Take care...

Thanks. Yeah, my Anastasia test & pre op are scheduled within the 30 day mark but I have everything else done - sleep study, lab work, psych eval, cardiac, pulmonary. I was surprised at the number of doctor appointments I had to have over the past two months.

Nice to meet someone else with the same surgery date. Are you required to do the 2 week liquid diet prior to surgery ? I'm learning the doctor orders vary greatly. I'm not thrilled about having to do it but I feel like it's my last hurdle to get me to surgery and i'm very excited about that !!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
