Ambien and the sleeve

Recommended Posts

Ambien and I have a love hate relationship. I am preop and I'm currently prescribed ambien because it is what my mental health insurance will cover. Recently I told my Dr. that the ambien wasn't working well and that I'd tried 3 mg of melatonin but it wasn't enough to keep me asleep. My Dr. told me that I could take up to 20 mg of melatonin with half of a 10 mg ambien if I needed to. I'm not saying this is a magical fix, but might be something to ask your Dr. about. I'm currently trying to get off of ambien, but it isn't easy. I've been on Lunesta, trazadone, ambien, ambien cr, seroquel, etc. and I'd love to get to a point where I don't need anything. Good luck with your ambien problems!

I took Ambien on a flight from New York to London. It is a 6 hour flight. I took it as soon as I strapped myself in. The flight attendant woke me up to fill out my landing card. I remember doing that and the next thing I remember is "waking up" at Paddington Station, standing at a ticket machine. I went through immigration and took the train into London (my first trip to London) and have no memory of it at all. It really is a blessing to me sleep-wise, but that amnesia s/!t scares me.

I had to detox for a week after being on Ambien for six months. It was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I had to re-teach myself how to fall asleep; it was like I had forgotten. I stopped taking it because my husband would tell me all the wackadoo things I would do. One time he found me in the garage playing with sparklers. I wouldn't stay in bed :(

After that' date=' I decided I had to take charge.[/quote']

That's just plain scary! I'd study for a test and take and ambien and go to sleep.. Wake the next morning for the test and my mind was erased!! I hated hiwnitberased my short term memory... My mom is nearly 70 and I've really been trying to get her off if them.. She's done better, but she struggled too. It's partially mental too... Ambien don't work on me anymore. I took them too long. I can take one and watch TV in bed for hours!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
