My Top 5 "No No" Foods @ 1 Month Post Op

Recommended Posts

My 1 month surgiversary is tomorrow. Although I have been able to eat a wider variety of foods over the past couple of weeks, the following foods are still impossible for me to eat. Let this be a warning to our recently new sleeved members.

1. eggs. Doesn't matter how they are cooked. Very hard to eat.

2. Potatoes. In any form.

3. meats. Including meats in Soups and stews.

4. bread. In any form, though I have been able to add crackers to Soup.< /p>

5. Raw Veggy's. Not yet.

If you are near the same stage as I, what good and bad experiences are you going through?

Curious as to your reaction to these foods? I had maybe 2 bites of mashed yesterday and I was ok. I'm 2 weeks out.

I'm four weeks out tomorrow and I get to start solids tomorrow. During my "soft/mushy" stage I was able to eat scrambled eggs, refried Beans, fat-free greek yogurt, really soft stewed chicken and turkey chili with kidney Beans (chewed well). I pretty much kept to those few things and could tolerate them well...1/4 cup at a time. No bread, rice or Pasta.

Not sure how much I'll change that up as I move to "solids" tomorrow.

Which foods are you referring to?

I am four weeks out and I've been able to eat soft foods since day 10. Anything you can cut with a fork... I've not come across anything I can't eat.... Like I never had surgery except for the restrictions

Ironically, I am able to eat rice, if cooked well. I have been eating yogurt since week 2. I have not attempted re-fried beans. I have heard eggs are difficult to digest. I'm glad you are able to eat them. I would give an eye-tooth for a piece of bread though. Another savior for me has been cottage cheese, which I tolerate very well. Fat free of course.

yea...bread...mmmmm. Think I'll have to wait before I try any; however, I have heard that if you toast it so that it's really dry (like a cracker) you can tolerate it. Not sure I want to waste the space on bread yet. Someday...lol.

I am 6weeks tomorrow I can not eat ANY meats but seafood. No thick Protein Shakes, rice, or bread. The meat feels like a brick in my stomach and it feels like it is stuck! The other stuff makes me sick to the stomach

Me too. I can tolerate everything that I've tried. I haven't tried bread, Pasta, or rice yet.

I'm four weeks out, can tolerate just about everything I've tried. Haven't tried bread or Pasta b/c I'm watching carbs but so far so good! I eat 500-700 cals a day, not on purpose just seems to be all I can muster right now. Losing slow but that's ok. I feel better everyday!

I've had bread... Not huge qualities, but I've had egg with toast, a small hamburger with the bottom bun, etc...

All of them that you said are hard for you to eat...I'm curious as to why they are impossible for you to eat. Do you vomit? Get nauseous? Gas?

None of the above. However, when I try to eat any of the foods I previously mentioned, I get the sensation that the food gets stuck in my throat. I can almost feel it go down, much in the same way a snake looks after eating a mouse!

Since these foods are so hard to eat now, I wonder how does our body acclimate to them. I am enjoying my weight loss, but don't want to eat mush foods for the rest of my life.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
