When is it safe to have caffeine? I'm dying for a cup of Joe :)

I waited a week and watered it down

I was sleeved on 3-8 and had some coffee on the 10th. I normally have a cup every morning but now I can only drink a couple ounces of it. Still better than no coffee at all. Most patients are told not to have coffee so I guess the choice to have it is an individual one.

Good luck!

Everyones doctor is different but mine told me to wait until 9 days after surgery. Considering I had to give it up a while before surgery I was counting the days!

I was told I could have Decaf but my doctor doesn't want me to have any caffeine,

My Bari nurse said NO CAFFEINE. So I can have Decaf but I hate decaf. This is going to be the hardest part for me. Yesterday she said the reason why is that it will dehydrate you so for every cup you have, you have to drink an additional bottle of Water to hydrate you again. If I can drink all that, then I'm going back to drinking my one cup per morning...but not for quite a while. I think she said maybe 6 months down the road (I may DIE of withdrawl by then!)

Wishing you the best. I know how difficult it will be for me to give up coffee, but I must. :(

I was told the same thing. Today is my one week sobriety from caffeine and I actually don't miss it any more!! I will admid days 1-3 were a mess but now all is good.

But like others said all doctors are different...mine said caffeine is dangerous not only for dehydration but can also cause an ulser...

You are probably just fine. My guess is you won't be able to drink as much as you think. I weaned off caffeine prior to surgery so I didn't have the headache on top of everything else. For me, it's the ritual of the morning cup. I make a cup of Decaf every morning. Pour half into another cup and stick it in the freezer. Enjoy a few sips of of the hot decaf and then about half an hour later use the coffee in the freezer for my morning Protein shake. Throw in the coffee, half a cup of skim milk and a scoop of chocolate Protein powder, hand full of ice and while it's not Starbucks, I have a nice little Mocha.

As long as you can keep up with your Water intake, you are probably fine to have a few sips.

Good luck!

Is there a maximum caffeine per day that they say is ok? I don't drink coffee but I live on Lipton Diet Cirtrus Green Tea. Not sure I can give that up!

It has 24mg a bottle.

I do something similar with my premier Protein Shake, drink half on the drive into work and then mix the rest with coffee. Sometimes a blend of regular and decaf, but recently my weekly weight loss has dropped off by a third. Could be dehydration from the caffeine... Need to look into this

I start each morning with a "mocha": Mix 1 scoop of chocolate Protein powder (I use Isopure low carb) with approx. 2 ounces of cold water...top it off with coffee (decaf preferred). Yum!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
