Gallbladder surgery and the band

Recommended Posts

Hello - after 6 years of researching everything on the internet about the lapband, and removal of my gallbladder 2 years ago, I've decided to go for it. Though, after reading everything about the band, I'm **STILL** scared to have this surgery. It sounds like having my gallbladder removed was easier than installing the band, hence, it should be a breeze for me.

I lost 60 pounds by "swimming" rather walking in the swimming pool three days a week for physical therapy (back problems). After it was over, I got depressed, gained 10 pounds, and decided I don't want to YOYO anymore. I've got lose 100 pounds--a personal goal.

I think it's more expensive to have this surgery if you've had one of your organs taken out since they have to use the same incision sites. Has anyone had their gallbladder taken out prior to surgery? Does the incision site hurt more? :help:

Brenda

I had my Gallbladder out 4 years ago. It was about the same as far as how I felt after surgery, if I had to pick one I'd say the GB was harder, slower recovery. Expect for the port site, that took a while longer to feel better, but now I don't notice it at all.

My surgeon was going to try and re-use the GB incisions, but ended up not. It didn't affect the cost of the procedure one way or another.

Hi there, I had gallbladder removal 5 years ago and my lapband was placed in June. The incisions were at a different site. They hurt but it was minor. The incisions are not that big. Good luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
