I am new to the wall. A little about me. I am 39 and I have 4 children. I weigh 280 and would like to be around 135.

I thought, until today that my insurance only covered roux en y, so I was surprised to find out they covered the sleeve as well. I am now leaning towards the sleeve.

Can anyone tell me their experiences with hospital stay, and general recovery?

Jen

I had breast reduction a year ago, I had an overnight stay. My surgery was on a Friday and I was back to work on Monday. Do you think I would be able to drive a very short distance to take my kids to school 3 days after surgery?

yes as long as your not having to take pain meds, I didnt need my pain meds outside of the hospital stay, you just really will have to see how your body handles everything

Wow!! Really?? The doc I saw today for medical clearance told me I can't drive for 4 to 6 weeks after surgery! I'm already stressing because if my teen son doesn't get his license early enough this summer, I don't know how he'll get to work!

BTW, sorry Nakole, didn't mean to high jack your thread, I was just shocked to see the diff in what docs order for post op driving! That's quite a difference! Anyway, just wanted to welcome you here. I'm new too even tho you wouldn't know it by the amount of posts I already logged in since joining last week! LOL!

Have you already had your sleeve done? It will probably be summer by the time I have my surgery, I'm thinking.

My husband would want me to drive because he wouldn't want to get out of bed to take the kids to school.

I know! It's crazy to punish me that long for heaven's sake! I'm a stay at home Mom but I would still have to take my oldest to work. I'm hoping for summer surgery & if it is in the summer, then my son's work schedule changes & instead of just weekends, he'll be working weekdays. But hopefully if I'm not on pain meds, I can convince my doc otherwise?

Don't be frustrated, I have to do a 6 month program I'm on month 3. I was at first because I have been fighting my weight for 35 yrs and I'm ready to be done but Adler I got over my disappointment I decided maybe it's a good thing. This is a life long change, a lot to learn in our new ways of eating. So I'm looking at this time to learn and be as prepared as much as possible and to be very successful in my journey! Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
