Any experiences with finding a new surgeon after starting the process with someone else?

Recommended Posts

Started with surgeon A and have completed 2 of my 3 insurance required visits. If I were to switch bariatric programs/surgeons, would the process start all over again? Would it pick up where I left off?

Thx!

You should be able to sign a records release form and have the records transferred to the new doctor. They may charge a fee depending on their office policies.

Yep! I switched surgeons to one that was several hours away, with no problem! Insurance accepted everything I had completed with the previous surgeon (NUT visits, psych eval, etc), and the office was friendly about forwarding all my records to my new surgeon. I had to go there in person and sign a release form, and then they sent them to the new office and gave me a personal copy of it all. They're not allowed to charge for the info, BUT they CAN charge you for the paper, which is silly.

No one gave me any hassle, insurance, old surgeon office, and new surgeon office.

Best of luck to you!!

Call your Insurance co. They're the ones with the answers you need.

No your paperwork would transfer over. Go to the new doctor with that paperwork on hand. Happened to me after I finished all my exams. The clinic was no longer taking my insurance. I went to 4 different clinics with my paperwork and had surgery at the fastest click

Clinic. Good luck with you.

Picks up where u left off...I had to do this after finishing everything..my insurance switched in january and I had finished that program dec 28th... it was fairly easy the new doc came to meet me!!! We did a one on one seminar, then I made an appt with him and the NUT I made sure I had all my records from the other Doc and it has only taken about a week or so to be approved from that point...I started to give up but I kept pushing

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
