I'm on day 17 of post-op and I have an odd problem. Two nights ago,in the middle of the night I woke out of a sound sleep because of the palms do my hand itching. Not just a little scratchy itch but an intense ,way down inside kinda itch. It has keep me awake for two nights. No topical ointment helps at all ,last night I had to put my hands in ice just to get relief. Anybody else experienced this?

Sounds to me like an allergic reaction to something ... anything new in the diet? I have heard of folks becoming lactose intolerant post-op, but I do not know the symptoms ...

I didn't have this problem after I was sleeved, but I did after a diff surgery. I ended up having to take some kind of allergy med for about 3 months. It's was so sever it was painful. I would go to the doc and see what he says, the meds my doc put me on where the only thing that helped me. Good Luck

When I have an allergic reaction to something I eat this happens, but you just had surgery and that could cause too. The anesthesia is most likely the culprit or some opioids used for pain. But heck.. I ain't no doc so it could be anything :D

If you are taking a pain killer, see if you are taking Percocet. A side effect of some of the pain mess is the release of histamines which causes itching.

I had this happen but the tops of my thighs would it h. Drove me crazy

I ended up bein allergic to heavy doses of dilaudid while in the hosp. I itched and scratched so much that I bled. It was misery! And yeah, ask your doc but itching in weird places like your palms is definately a side effect of narcotic pain meds.

When I had the strong itch reaction in the hospital, they put liquid BENEDRYL in my IV. Holy hell talk about sleepy! I loved it.

If there comes a time when i go missing, I'll probably be under a bridge with liquid BENEDRYL.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
