FAYE -`I'm glad they approved you without a hitch. How exciting ... just a little more than a month away. What's the pre-op diet?

Cheryl - Now, now. Stop beating yourself up! You're human. We all make misteps. It's a learning process. One of the many things we need to change is replacing negative thoughts with positive thoughts. Your brain will program itself with the tools you give itl. If you think of a good side to a seemingly bad story, your brain will remember that. Ultimately, you'll live in positivity, and occasionally will start to lapse into negative thinking, but you'll catch yourself and stop it before it continues. This is something I have to do all the time. It's just me and my doggie. Altho my friends think highly of me and rarely say anything negative, I'm alone with only Shiki for company. I have to be the one to keep my brain on the right track. I get negative thoughts and I immediately stop it and think of something good instead. It works, try it.

Give youself credit for what you've done so far, My God ... it took a lot of courage to even have this surgery! And you've lost some 30 lbs. Congratulations.

SEARCHING - Great to hear from you again. I completely understand where you're at. I was there for 2 years, trying to figure out what to do. While I have reservations about getting through surgery, I have no reservations about having the surgery. I simply can't live like I am any longer. I will be getting a surgery date soon, and I'm both excited and scared at the same time. Let us know if you have any questions. I've done extensive research, like many others here, and we probably know the answer.

kckitty - Ha! Dec. 47. Who asked? :angry: And suggesting that you're the oldest ... well I never. :lol: I am not ready to spill all the Beans, but as Billy Joel said, "You may be right, I may be crazy." Or I still might be the oldest. Sssh. Don't spread that rumor. Lets just say many people think I'm in my 40s, a few guess in the 50s, and no one talks about the 60s. Oh, pshaw, I just can't handle talking about age. Yech.

But very happy to hear from y'all, as we say in Texas. My favorite is all y'alls.

My preop diet is 2 weeks of very low carbs, like <25, I think. I should be receiving the detailed info any day now. I know I can have lean Protein & veggies, but not sure about anything else. I will begin it on June 5th, I think, but I'm already trying to cut out carbs so it won't be such a shock to the system.

Hello Ladies, It is good to hear from all of you. It is so hot and humid in southern Florida today and I am so happy I had this surgery in March. It is hard to believe that I am coming up on my 11 week post op. Where does the time go? I can really understand anyone being excited and scared all at the same time. I was exactly like that up until the day of my surgery. I went to bed the night before my surgery asking myself if I am doing the right thing. It is amazing that in the middle of the night around 3am it just came to me that I need this surgery to get my life back. No one else was awake but me just staring up to the ceiling. I needed to make this decision for myself and no one else. I know it is a very serious surgery but I was willing to take the chance since I had a great surgeon who I trusted with my life. First 2 weeks were hard for me. I was always tired, I had some pain and could not eat all my 60 grams of Protein and 64oz of Water each day. I learned along the way that this is normal. Some people a week later just go back to work. I on the other hand took a little bet longer to get myself up and moving, everybody is different. I am walking now but not like I should be and that might be the reason that I have not lost weight in the past 2 weeks. I am a little disappointed but I am keeping on track and I know the weight will come off again. This really is my 1st weight loss stall that I have heard others talk about. I hear that there are other stalls along the way but just think about 6 months from now or a year from now how much better off we will all be with this weight off of us. Since I have 11 weeks under my belt if anyone has any questions I will be happy to answer them for you and if I do'nt have an answer I will be honest and tell you. That is way I love this group of Boomers, with age comes wisdom. Take care and have a great Sunday Evening. Cheryl

Hi Cheryl,

Always good to hear from you. Believe it or not, no date yet. I'm pretty sure I will have one in a week. It's kinda a long story, but I'm waiting on a couple of things, which hopefully will straighten themselves out by then

Other than that, nothing much else. Oh, I will be scoring the SAT next month. I do the writing portion. I had to study really hard to get good enof to pass the qualifications. Just to give you an idea of how hard it is ... they give us 3-5 days to learn it each time. It takes awhile to get in the right mindset to do "holistic scoring." I've gotta start studying again any day now as the session starts Oct. 10.

I'm thinking about lighting the fuse again under this group. There's a couple of gals I talk to on Facebook, but it would be nice to get us all together in one place. I'm in a couple of groups on Facebook, but there's really no moderation, so people say whatever. Since I am not one to shy away from controversy without having my say, I find that I am getting into cyber battles with strangers. No fun, really.

So, I'm gonna tell my 2 friends, Coco and Jean, to join us here.

Let's keep it going!

How about you? How's the relationship with hubs? One of the gals on fb is having a prob with her hubs. He's keeping her at arms length for the past 3 months.

Okay ... what's the deal? I see that Jean checked in Friday night, may or may not have read my message. She didn't, however, post anything.

Hello, all. I hope everyone is doing well. I just passed my 3 month post-op mark & I'm feeling really good. I'm down about 65 lbs so far, I'm able to exercise more, and we recently joined a gym. I have not yet come across a food that I don't handle well, but there are definitely a couple of things I have hesitated to try. I still haven't eaten a big salad, since I know that raw veggies are harder to digest. I've had a little raw spinach, and a little lettuce with some taco meat, but not just a salad on it's own. I haven't found it too difficult to stay away from sweets, so that's been helpful. When I do have the occasional sweet craving, I've been able to satisfy it with acceptable choices, like a piece of fruit or high Protein, low carb Cookies or doctoring up some yogurt. Tracking my food on MFP helps me a lot. If anyone else uses MFP & wants to find me there, my username is puresouthernsoul.

Congratulations of your success!! I bet you feel terrific. Congrats, also, on joining a gym. How's that working out? What are you and Tony doing? Has he dropped lbs. and inches?

65 lbs. gone forever. Yay! I'm no expert, but it would seem to me that you should be able to eat just about anything, including salads, etc. The best advice I've gotten is to kinda learn with your new stomach. Try a little bite, see how it goes, try a little more. You know ... slow and steady wins the race.

Good to hear from you! Hang around ... we're gonna get this group up and running again. I'm sure of it.

So far, I'm enjoying working out. When we joined the gym, the membership included 2 hours with a person trainer. The one I met with worked out a circuit training plan for me & emailed it to me. I printed it out with the names of the machines, amount of pounds to set & the number of reps to do, and I carried it around with me the first couple of times I went. It was really helpful to have, while I got used to the routine. Tony's not really following an eating plan, but he is eating less & usually choosing healthier Snacks. He's losing weight, as well, and also feels better. :)

Every trainer I ever worked with showed me each machine and how to use it, then stayed while I did it.

I've never heard of just sending an email with instructions. Heck, I could do that. Hmm. Maybe a second career for me. LOL

I'd give serious thought to getting a real "personal" non-email, live trainer. That's the whole point!

I am so happy to see a few of the old crowd back on this site. I have to tell you folks that I am 6 months post op down 90 pounds and my nutriontist is not happy. She told me I should be down 100 pounds by now. I felt like crap when I left her office. Here I am thinking I am doing a great job and she goes and tells me this. Well, I had to call my surgeon's office today and asked my PA if she thought I should be down more. She told me I am on target and doing a great job getting this weight off of me. She said 90 pounds in 6 months if awesome and to keep on track and she bets that I should hit the 100 pound mark in 4 to 5 weeks from now. I am a little relieved to hear this and not sure why my nutrionist said what she said. The surgery is not easy but it has helped me get the weight off that I could not do on my own. I am glad I had the surgery even on days that I do not feel my best. Thanks for listening.

Hi All! I did an intro post in the other section yesterday. I won't go into all that detail again, but I had surgery 5/5/13. I did my surgery in Mexico so I don't have a nutritionist. I have also had a broken bone in one foot since a few weeks after my sleeve surgery, so I have not been able to exercise as I should. But I'm plugging along and can now ride a stationary bike.

I'm looking forward to knowing everyone in our group and exchanging information and support!

Southern Soul, I think it is great that you have joined a gym and have a personal trainer! I was a little surprised also that you got email instructions instead of one-on-one instructions from the trainer, but then I haven't been to the gym in 5-6 years so in another way it doesn't surprise me. There isn't much personal service anyplace nowadays:)

Caspinelli, I think 90# in 6 months sounds awesome! I would go with what the Dr office said. I think we all lose at a different pace and don'r really see how you can expect one set number for results.

CoCO, you said you are losing slowly....I am too. I am at about 1# month but at least we are losing.

I have had some difficulty finding the Boomer Chat room but I think I finally have it figured out...LOL

I saw the Dr today for my broken bone issue. He says at least one more month in the boot cast and continue to be non-weight bearing. I'll be so glad to get back to full weight bearing with no boot; my current status is seriously cramping my style!

Sorry to be unclear, y'all....my personal trainer is a real live person who works with me for an hour at a time. Unasked, he took the extra step of emailing me a recap of all the stuff we had worked out together...the order of machines, amount of weight to use on each, number of reps, etc., so that I didn't have to rely on memory for the whole process at first. I have it all memorized now, but it was very helpful the first couple of times I was there on my own. I wish I could afford to have a session with him every time I go, but for now I'm meeting with him about every other week.

Cheryl, don't feel bad about what the NUT said. When I went for my 3 mos check-up with my surgeon, he told me I had missed the goal they set for that visit by 12 lbs!! I also felt like crap, but I got over it. I had lost 58 lbs by that point & I decided that was perfectly good enough for me. I feel great & that's what matters the most.

It's good to know that my doctor is not the only jerk out there. Personally, Cheryl, I would drop that nutty nut like a hot potato. You don't need that sh*t. You've worked hard, you deserve praise and support, not criticism. What a jerk!

As to your hubby, I don't even know what to say except he better watch his P's and Q's or he's gonna see his ever-growing beautiful wife in the arms of someone else who sees her for the beautiful person she is ... in all areas.

Faye is a happy newlywed, of sorts, even tho she's been married 5 years. She fixed her picker the second time around, and has a great partner in her hubby, Tony. I'm glad you took that comment from your nut with the respect it deserved: NONE!

Sorry to say I've never met a Nut I liked. First of all they look anorexic, like they've never had a good meal. They usually have a zero personality and certainly cannot relate to or know how to encourage us to do well.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
