My NUT told me today that he would be afraid to eat anything with seeds in it, like tomatoes. He said that because there is an incision site, he would be afraid the seeds would get stuck in there and become a massive problem.

Is this a danger? Is there a time when you CAN start eating things with seeds again? I love tomatoes, I have an entire Tomato garden growing quickly. I knew it would not be on the menu at first, but will it ever?

Thanks!

How far out are you?

You do need to wait until the suture line has completely scared over as has been mentioned. A stuck seed leads to infection which means they open you up. So, you have to decide how bad you want that Tomato right now.

I think I was at least 3 months post before I had toms or any berry.

I am still pre-surgery. Had my second NUT visit today and he mentioned it. I will not be having anything with seeds in it until I am given a green light. LOL

Thanks for answering.

Keep in mind that you CAN deseed tomatoes if you want the flavor. I do it all the time if I don't want a lot of liquid in something but want that Tomato flavor. Definitely stick with your NUT/dr. guidance, though!

I hollow out my tomatoes usually, the seeds just get in the way in my opinion, and can make caprese slimy also they are the source of 'weeping' after you cut your tomatoes. Good luck!

I am nine weeks and I eat tomatoes and lots of salsa, I haven't had any problems, but there is always a chance.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
