Calorie intake!?

Recommended Posts

I saw my surgeon 2 weeks ago at 6 1/2 months post op and he said where I was at with calories was where I should be. I am at between 700-1000 calories a day, depends on the day. He told me that at about a year out I should be at 1200 calories a day or a bit more. I started back to the gym finally after a labral tear in my hip has been holding me back, so now I'm burning like 300 calories a day for now. Once I add more min to cardio I will burn more, God willing that the injection in my hip keeps the pain at bay!!

Thanks for the reply! Can you tell me what's your typical day (of eating) like? My dr has me restricted on working out bc I've lost too much weight too fast

My NUT told me today that 1000 calories is the aim. Most seem to go lower then that though. Depends on how far along you are.

This is really dependent on your metabolic rate and any metabolic syndrome you may or may not have and your rate of fat loss to lean muscle loss. I am at the high end of safe loss if the average is 2-5% My endo calculated 4.7 last week. I eat 1200-1400 cal per day. I work out pretty hard six days a week. If I was losing at 6% or higher, they'd ask me to increase my calories. If I couldn't, I'd have to restrict cardio. It's about health and wellness. Lean muscle is in all your organs as well as your muscles.

Thanks! I have a body bugg so it counts the calories i burn while at rest and during activity. So i aim to burn 800-1000 at the gym, plus then at work I'm always moving. Lately I've been hitting the 3000 mark by 6 pm. No way do i burn 3000 just at the gym though. Lol.

wow upwards of 1000 cal at the gym... what are you doing. I do about 45min of heavy lifting followed by 30mins HIIT cardio and might burn 600.

I try to aim for around 30 minutes of weights, and an hour to an hour and a half of cardio. I like to warm up by walking on the treadmill for ten minutes or so, then i loveeeee the elliptical. I usually do an hour on there. And then i try bikes or the stairmaster to kind of add in something random and different. I am in no way a great gym kind of person, i just always try my best to push myself a little and try to enjoy the time there.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
