I've been to our crappy little er twice in the last week And also to my dr. All offered little help

"Pancreitis" said one dr. X-rays and bloodwork.

"Stomach bug, I'll give you these 2 medications for pain and stomach spasms" they did X-rays to look for a blockage. Bloodwork.

"You just need to let your sleeve heal, I'll give you a script, it's gerd"

Still, pain. New pain that's in my lower back. "Leak" I thought.

Came to the real er instead of the wannabe one and they immediately did bloodwork and a ct scan w contrast and Iv contrast.

I have blood clots in the veins that are in my intestines. Rare, especially for someone my age. So I'm in the hospital, about to start a heparin drip and I'll be here a while.

So much for saving money by going to Mexico, huh? I'm glad I'm finally getting taken care of.

Sure hoped I'd never have to post here.

Oh Amy, I'm so sorry!! I know it's scary and overwhelming right now. I had a blood clot in my brain after I had my last daughter. But the good news is, they found your clots and you will be just fine!! After my initial round of blood thinners, I did end up on aspirin daily because they found elevated clotting factors in my blood. But honestly, it's so much better to go through all of this and know, even if it does end up meaning aspirin daily (which it may or may not) instead of just falling over one day!!

I'm so sorry you're going though all of this, but so glad you pushed through for a 3rd, 4th, 5th opinion until they found out what was really going on!! You'll be in my thoughts and prayers tonight!

So glad that you stuck to your guns. We know how own bodies better than anyone. I have two swollen areas on my left arm where my IV was and I had surgery on Feb 27. Went to family doctor and she did an ultrasound and found blood clots. Going to have to give myself 2 injections of Lovenox a day. They also gave me Cumiden. Just shows we are all so different you just never know but I was also glad I went to the doctor.

Hang in there, Amy. You were awesome, continuing to push back and get other opinions when the answers you were getting didn't make sense! Hopefully this will resolve quickly and you can get back to livin' life!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
