Heidie88 3 Posted March 19, 2013 I can't manage to eat everything I need to. My suggested pureed diet plan says that I should eat 1/2 cup of oatmeal in the morning. I can only eat a quarter of that and sometimes it tries to come back up. No matter how slow I am eating. Just eating a quarter of it is taking an hour! AND I am using a baby spoon to make sure my bites are small. This morning I was able to eat maybe a 1/4 cup of yogurt and now I am full and don't want to eat my pureed fish. Is there ANY way I can skip this and start my soft diet on Saturday like I am supposed to?
DuranFan1969 119 Posted March 19, 2013 From what my NUT told me, whatever you are eating don't eat it for longer than 15 minutes otherwise you're into grazing and you don't want to do that. I think you may not be hungry because you are taking so long to consume what you're having for your meals. It takes time to have your tummy heal - eat what you can and make sure you're getting your Proteins in, along with your Water. You'll make it.
kari61 128 Posted March 19, 2013 I don't know what you mean by can you stop this? But my nutritionist also told me that after 20 minutes if I'm not done eating, to stop. Sounds like a good thing that you aren't that hungry right? just make sure your getting in all your Proteins and fluids...

JerseyGirl68 1,172 Posted March 19, 2013 It might just be too dense for you still. You are still healing and you need time to adjust. It does get much easier to eat as you get further along. oatmeal is pretty heavy, how thick are you making it? Maybe thin it out a bit. My NUT didn't want me taking more than 20 minutes either, and told me not to stress as long as I was progressing on my stages, even if it was slowly. I eat every 3 to 4 hours, 3 meals two healthy Snacks. I'm three months out and still never hungry, I'm enjoying that for every minute it lasts! Stay hydrated. Good luck!! Pookeyism 1,143 Posted March 19, 2013 Not everyone is going to progress at the same rate. Eat what you can. since you are having trouble, focus on your protiens first. Spinach in cans, pureed with a little lemon is a good alternative to the grains and meats, if you aren't tolerateing them well. If you can do nothing else, find a good raw juice bar (not smoothie hut or java whatever) and get some juices. Good luck!
Lexy832 1 Posted March 19, 2013 i cant do shakes. ive been freezing them to thaw out & thin out, butno success. i find that i do better with tuna fish, very light mayo barely changing its color for Protein. weird, but thats how i spend ALL DAY trying to get the Protein in Sent from my SPH-D710 using VST
Heidie88 3 Posted March 19, 2013 Lexy, I find that I can get tuna fish down with no problems... I can't do the shakes or the Isopure drinks....But one of the NUTS at my doctors office told me I would bust a staple eating before I should. Does that mean I can't eat till my body is ready or I can eat after a certain time of healing like next Saturday that is my 31 days out?
Lexy832 1 Posted March 21, 2013 u & i must be kindred spirits. u should absolutely follow ur doctors orders. make sure they know ur having trouble with the shakes & Isopure. i know i couldnt do it. im 2 wks out. my doc wants me to slowly return to solid foods. he said for me to try the turkey or chicken breast deli slices cut very thin. i did it today chewing forevr of course & i feel great Sent from my SPH-D710 using VST
JeffNNJ 111 Posted March 21, 2013 Oatmeal tends to expand in your stomach. Try switching to something like grits or farina. I think you'll do a lot better.

You CANNOT eat that daily... Too much mercury! About two times a week max
