Hi everybody!

My name is Janet, I'm from Long Beach, Ca and had my band placed on 08/23/06. So far have lost 22lbs.

I work for a major US airline and love to travel. I could not afford the price of surgery in the US so had my band placed in Belgium for about $7000.00 USD. The band is a European model, Helioscopie, so I have my fills done in Tijuana, Mexico.

Nice to meet you all!

Thank you Randy, Brandy, and Julie!

I am still trying to feel my way around this site. It's a bit different than the other board I have been reading. Any helpful tips?

Well my tip is take NOTHING at face value. I read alot on her when I first got here that scared the bejesus out of me. But just remember that there is a lot of negative sometimes, but A LOT of positive!

Hi Janet!!

Welcome to LBT.

First rule? You can't ask too many questions.

I also use the New Posts button - then I work my way back.

When I first got on the site - I had more time, so I read it all. If you have the time, I recommend it. Get opinions from more than one person.

You will find out soon enough who the negative people are. Don't completely discount them - because they have some valuable information, too - but take them with a grain of salt.

You will also find that there are many on this board who are caring individuals that want to help each other and all the new band babies out there.

Hugs! 22 lbs since August is GREAT!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
