Abnormal Pain - Pre-Op

Recommended Posts

Kinda a weird question; don't know if it is gas or something else.

I started my liquid diet on 03/12/13; I have been having major pain in my left and right sides feels like it is under my rib change. Did anyone else have this problem? Does anything help? I was told a heating pad, but I work full time, so I can only use a heating pad at home. Please let me know if anyone has had this problem. I also read that is my be my liver shrinking. I don't have a gallbladder so I know it is not that. I also had a full hysterectomy about 3 years ago, I am wondering if something may be shrinking and pulling tissue.

Thanks!

I was told it could be related to simple reaching. If you are feeling good and moving better simple things like reaching across the counter for a pen or up high for a cup or down low for your pocketbook can cause it. Gas blows, if that it what is. Wish that would just end for us!! :) Hope you feel better soon!!!

I was telling a lady in my office about it; the only person that really knows about my surgery; and she is an older lady. She gave me a heat patch; I have one on each side and I am completely amazed at how much it has eased off; so I am thinking that it is gas; cause I have read how much a heating pad helps. They are a little expensive; I paid 7.49 at CVS for 3 but well worth the money. She said she paid a $1.00 at Wal-Mart for hers. The good thing is they last 8 hours! Might want to try them capeciw! :)

Oh good idea! I forget about those Patches. To the OP, those Patches are awesome! Hopefully it goes away with the gas strips but if not i would try one of those patches while you're at work! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
