I'm 7 weeks Post-Op. I haven't lost anything in about 2-3 weeks. I've lost 39lbs total. I know that sounds good, but most of that was during the first 4 weeks. I know I shouldn't weigh, but because I know I'm NOT losing I can't help but weigh. That aside because I know weighing is working against me... I can not lose weight. Doesn't matter what I do. I do cardio and strength training. I get cardio every day. I'm eating as much as I can handle... I know I'm not meeting my calorie goal, but I'm doing as best I can. I'm so disappointed in myself. I feel like a failure. Just wanted some encouragement. Just want to feel like I'm not alone. I've gone through hell with this stupid sleeve. I feel like I did for nothing.

Thanks for reading my whine.

Hang in there! Are you taking your measurements? Your body needs time to catch up. You should be losing inches. Stay away from that scale, it will only bring heart ache. Keep up the work you are doing great!

DO NOT GET SO DOWN!! Both myself and my sister have had the sleeve. I am 8 months out and she is 11 months out. Both of us stopped losing around that same time and the scales did not move one pound for three weeks! I know this is discouraging and you think that you will be the only one in history that this has not worked for, but you are wrong. :) When you eat as little as we do with the sleeve, you WILL lose weight. There is no way around it. Your body has been thrown in to starvation mode so of course it panics and tries to hold out to get you through the crisis. Pretty soon, it can't hold out any more. I know it is easier said than done but try to quit worrying about the scale and keep right on going. This is for the rest of your life, not just a few weeks. This stall does not break or make you. I hope you started measureing at the beginning because that helps a lot when you see the inches still continuing to drop off even when the wt stalls. Pick yourself back up off the floor and get on with doing what you are supposed to. I PROMISE you, you will see the scales begin to move again shortly. :D

I had a several week stall and then 5 lb loss with the flu. Every once in a while I lose a couple lbs, but nothing to yippee about. I take that back.. YIPPEE.. I'm getting smaller! Slow, but sure

Hang in there. It's not going to help by frettin' so you might as well relax and be happy your healthier than before and remember its not a race.

I'm only 5 days out, but even I can say DON'T WORRY!!!

People tend to think that simply burning more calories than you consume is enough to lose weight. But sometimes that is not true! Our body has an AMAZING ability to pause when it think it needs to so that it doesn't die. If you think about it, your body is amazingly protective of you. When it's sure you're ok, you'll lose again. That's a certainty. And it'll happen sooner than later. Focus on just being healthy right now! Xoxox

You didn't really mention what you are eating. I am in a bit of a stall as well- I am losing but like MAYBE a pound last week. Not enough. This week I am adding calories to see if that makes a difference. I am also planning on the Atkins induction 2 week phase if that doesn't work. I guess what I'm asking is are you really watching carbs? I used to be completely anti-Atkins BUT now I have educated myself about it and it makes so much sense. I do limit carbs but not severely.

I'm going to jump in on this one too... As hard as it is, try not to get discouraged. One of my favorite posts from a vet that has stuck with me since I joined VST is http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/23246-gastric-sleeve-surgery-dos-and-donts/

The first line: Remove the word only from your vocabulary. I have to remind myself of this one more often than I would like. It is so easy for us to think this isn't going to work, since nothing else has.

Trust it, let your body adjust to the new way you are living. Let it catch up.

I'm borrowing a link from another trusted vet, an article about stalls... http://www.dsfacts.com/weight-loss-stall-or-plateau.html

When all else fails, call your NUT, I'm sure they will reiterate what I am sure you already know.

Good luck, and you are off to a great start!!

I really don't understand people. We were extremists when it came to food and eating and then we have surgery to help correct our lives and then people complain about the rate of weight loss which is just another extreme. Relax if your eating right and eating 1000-1200 calories a day YOUR BODY WILL LOSE THE WEIGHT!! Try to be grateful for everyday and focus on something other than weight loss like eating right and exercising and enjoying things we could not before. Celebrate every pound loss. So what if we lose a pound a week? It is a loss. It is extreme to believe we will lose it all quickly. It takes a year or more. Try to learn patience and how to be more moderate.

It's ok to feel like that so long as you don't dwell on it. I had a few days a few weeks ago when I felt just like you. I was sleeved 9 weeks ago today. I've lost 43.5lbs since surgery (1/15)....the thing is you have got to remember, this weight did not just get up on your body in a few weeks. So it's going to take time to get it off. Don't weigh so much. I try only to weigh once a month. I would rather see a big number than just 1 or 2 lbs here and there. And I don't want to know if I'm going thru a stall and get discouraged. I just keep doing what I'm doing and trusting the process. 39lbs is great!! It will come off! I know for me I'm always surprised when I get on the scale and see I've lost weight. I think in the back of my head I keep thinking its not going to work, but it does! Hang in there, keep positive, it helps! You can do it!! :)

While I can somewhat appreciate what you say, if it was that easy there would be no needs for boards such as this. The truth is that slow losing can be very discouraging and can cause people to throw up their hands and consider themselves a failure and go back to the old habits that got them here to begin with. I've been in a very slow losing slide for the last month, losing a total of 5 pounds in the last 30 days. I've eaten my calories, watched my carbs, done the carido etc, but the weight is just coming off slowly. I wasn't discouraged early on, but now it is starting to come and I can see myself creeping back into where I was before. Weightloss, regardless of how it is approached, either surgically or through the old fashioned methods, it tough. Don't you feel that it we were all eating the right number of calories and doing the right number of jumping jacks that we would be skinny in no time flat? It just isn't that simple for some. It is tough to come on here and read that someone who was sleeved after me, has lost 70 or 80 pounds. It's hard to read that someone is losing 4 to 5 pounds a week for 5 to 6 months and you are busting. your hump to lose 1. This is where I was before, I'm losing the weight that I've lost maybe 10 or 15 times. Yes I expect better results and a faster weight loss and I don't think that is totally unreasonable. So I can certainly empathize with the OP. Hopefully that will give you some perspective to "understand people" a bit better.

Good gracious. I'll try and keep this brief. I'm so sorry I didn't vomit rainbows and sunshine on my post. My personality is very "anti-confrontation", but your whole post has a certain douchebaggery to it that I can't help myself than to speak my mind. You have NO idea what kind of day I'm having. You have no idea what other pre-existing circumstances I have. For all practical purposes, my concerns and disappointments are completely and totally justified. Perhaps even my doctor gave me a reason for disappointment over this. You have no idea. I've posted one other time on this forum. You have given me a reason not to come back. Extreme or not, if something as stupid as an internet forum can get me upset because I'm not "sunny and sparkly" enough for someone's liking, then certainly I don't need to come here and post.

Thank you all for your legitimate encouragement. I actually have hit a very hard day today. Normally, I just push through, but for some reason today has been especially difficult. I do measure inches and such. I do watch my carbs and keep my Protein up. I drink Protein shakes. I follow the rules. I use myfitnesspal. I use striiv. I've only been cleared for strength training last week. That has moved a little slower. My hubby was sleeved a week after I was. He's down 60lbs without nearly as much exercise. It's hard not to compare. I've been trying so hard.... not only have I not lost in 2-3 weeks, but I've gained. I'd like to think it's muscle. My heart knows I'm doing well. My head is telling me otherwise. I'll keep pushing through. I just wanted to feel that I am not alone. Thank you very much for the encouragement. It really was helpful.

Sorry for my above comment. It wasn't very tactful or kind. Now that I've cooled off a bit, I realize it wasn't my best moment. I wish you all the best on your journey. <3

The idea of this surgery is to never "diet" again. You eat a healthy, well-balanced diet, exercise, and it comes off because you can't eat more calories than you expend. The heavier you are, the more calories you use, especially doing inactive things such as sleeping. The weight loss will wax and wain because all of our bodies are different.

The best thing this surgery has given me is a feeling of control over eating because I no longer can just keep eating for other reasons besides hunger. It is perfectly ok to have any feelings that you have and to want to continue doing what we have always done and that is to go right back to the "dieting" mentality. I want to be free of all that!

Please hear my heart, and know I am not judging anyone here. None of us are exactly alike and everyone handles things different. I just wanted to give another perspective. If you have never seen it, go to www.theworldaccordingtoeggface and read her site. She talks about the diet mentality a lot. Good luck to all of you. Hang in there because it does get better!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
