New From Ireland

Recommended Posts

Hi , Tommorow is My day for surgery, I'm quite nervous but also looking forward to it. Not quite sure what to expect as I know everyone reacts differently. I came accross this board looking for some support looks like you are a friendly bunch. This procedure is only available since May in Ireland so not a lot out there at the moment for support. But the surgeon is from France and is very experienced so that at least is good news .

Looking forward to getting to know you all as I start my journey.:rolleyes

Hi ya Lori!

Congrats on having your band fitted :) You didn't have it done in Chimay by any chance?

Witht he ticker, there is a thread that tells you how to do it. I'd try and tell you but pretty hopeless with techno babble. But, all I can say it's actaully easy once you know how! I thinkthe key thing is once you have the link, in your signature you click the image button and place the 'http' in the box that pops up. Hope it helps a little.

Look forward to hearing about your progress

regards

Suzanne xx

I am sure your loss will be just as good.

It's great that they are doing it in Dublin. The reason I thought it might be Chimay was because one of the ladies, who had the op the same day as me. came from Ireland/Dublin. I remembered her saying that they had only started offering it to Ireland residents earlier this year.

Good luck with the tickerfactory, I think you just need to use the search box and it should bring up the different threads with 'tickerfactory' in there.

So how are you feeling post op? Did you get a lot of gas pain, it amazes me how it varies with each person. I've been far to lucky with this band, I am waiting for something to go wrong lol!

I have always wanted to go to Ireland....green is my favorite color! Ha! Hope you are doing okay.

Terrilen that thing I said is just the irish for "thank you very much". I wouldn't like you to stress for too long. As for the Ticker i figured it out I think you just redo it when you change info?Maybe there is an easier way.

Im Living in Westmeath approx 60 miles from Dublin. traffic depending 1 hr15 mins to airport. Do you chat in the chat rooms I think I would like that as it is so instant. maybe we could link up there sometime. where are u from? what is your current loss if your ticker is wrong.

Talk soon

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
