Better or worse than expected?

Recommended Posts

The pain after surgery was WAY worse than I expected. I have a high pain tolerance, I had 2 c-sections, but this was just wow. I had no gas pains though. Other than the first 10 days or so, the whole experience was easier than I expected. At 7 weeks post op, I feel great. Even with the pain, I would do it again! :-)

less pain than you expected ? Or if the whole journey in itself (food & all) was easier than expected?

Sooner girl36

i really didn't know what to expect.

ignorance is bliss????

as others, i've also had other surgeries

i realized as WLS was approaching - i wasn't worried at all about the surgery itself

i was more concerned about the fact of feeling hungry, able to follow all the "rules" stuff like that so i would be a "successful" sleever

i have done well with food, slip up on an occassion, we're all human - but usually do great and wear a smile on my face :)

i had a perfect recovery - no gas, vomitting et al

tired, a little weak - but no pain meds once home - felt good - happy to be starting my new life

Prepare for surgery, make sure you've read alot, buy all your necessary foods/drinks

wishing you all the success you deserve

Pain else, about as I expected. Overall experience, worse than I planned for.

Everything was much easier than I expected, the surgery, the pain, the recovery, the life style change. I had my one-year checkup just yesterday and told them how easy it had been and that I really didn't have to work very hard at it. They pointed out that I had done all the work mentally prior to the surgery, which I suppose is true. I made myself very much aware of what might happen, and what must happen.

Best of luck - you'll do just fine!

Just wondered if any of you Sleevers had surgery and if it was less extreme pain than you expected it to be? Or if the whole journey in itself (food & all) was easier than expected? Hoping to be one of those but preparing anyway.

I had a hysterectomy April 2012. It was hard going off hormones, I had to stop 2 weeks prior to surgery. I'm still not on them, my surgery was 3-14. I have had a harder time with this surgery. The biggest difference is my energy level. I too was out and about really fast after my hysterectomy. It's been hard to get in the required liquids so it has affected my energy. But please don't take this in a bad way. The first two days were horrible (dry heaves, gas pain) but each day gets better. I'm 5 days post-op and I'm down 13 lbs. From what I've read, as time goes on it just gets better. My best recommendation is get the gas X strips. Found mine at Walmart. They were a lifesaver!!! Good luck to you.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
