Survived first day of soft foods! Yay!

Recommended Posts

The day has come to an end and I survived my first day of soft foods!! Here's what I had...breakfast 4 tablespoons of scrambled egg whites, lunch pkg of Carl budding turkey breast and sugar free strawberry Jello, snack was chocolate Premier Protein, dinner 1/2 tilapia fillet with 2 tablespoons of French style green Beans. It took me roughly 30 min on each meal but i knew exactly when to quit on each meal and I chewed chewed chewed! I'm so proud of myself!! Best Monday ever! Just had to share!

P.S. I hit my first goal weight today too! 30 lbs down!! :)

I am afraid I won't be able to. I am supposed to start on Saturday but I can't even eat all my pureed food. Even taking my time I can't even get down a quarter of a fourth of a cup of oatmeal in under an hour! :( I feel like I'll never make it! How did your pureed stage go Emilee68?

I didn't have a purée stage. My dr had me do full liquids first 3 weeks post op then soft solids for 3 weeks then solids. I can't eat alot now. It's extremely small portions.

How did you know when to stop eating? Was it a normal fullness?

No to me it feels different. It kinda feels like there's a lump in your chest...it's hard to describe. Before the sleeve when I would feel full. My stomach would feel all bloated out and I would a general feeling of being stuffed. But now it doesn't bloat out or anything like that. I just had the lump or fullness in my chest...it's not uncomfortable or painful or anything like that. I can just tell and I'm like ok that's it. It doesn't take much though. I can only get through about 2 oz of albacore tuna and it takes me about 30 min to eat that. It's a good feeling though. I know I can't gorge myself! Lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
