Measuring Success off the scale

Recommended Posts

So, I had a little break up with my scale and as of January 1, 2013, I have been avoiding it and measuring success on different levels. I do not plan to use the scale as a measuring tool until I hit my 1 year on April 24th. So, I started training for a 5k. I am now up to jogging 20 minutes straight. While I may not be the fastest or the best looking runner, it is an accomplish. Working on endurance right now, then speed. Haven't picked an actual race yet, but I will do this!

Tonight, while waiting for my one basset to finish his dinner so I could let the puppy out of her cage, I was messing around and stretching and realized I can bend over and touch my toes! Oh My Freaking God! I can't remember the last time I could do that!

I am so happy that I have finally found ways other than the scale to measure my success. I would love to hear what other people have accomplished off the scale!

That is awesome. I have been at odds with the scale every other week due to retaining Water. I am wanting to start running but I'm nervous about it... It's been at least 20 years since I last ran...Kinda scared

I have been putting off joining a gym because you know that big lady off in the corner pouring sweat that is beet red and looks and sounds like she's having a heart attack...? That's me!! Lol. I need to get myself into slightly better shape before I 'publically sweat'. Good for you for kicking your scale to the curb! My biggest NSVs are shopping back through all of my old clothes in my closet and being able to wear things that I haven't in years!

Tonight, I was just explaining to my mom what a NSV was. I have had several but my newest is being able to wear my high heels again and I'm now able to wear them all day long. Prior to surgery, I was known for carrying two pairs of shoes and swapping to flats after every business meeting. Now I plan to carry an extra pair of shoes but it's gonna be running shoes so I can exercise during lunch!

I used to be the same way about the gym. Until I realized, what are they gonna say about me?! "Look at that big red-faced, fat, sweaty chick trying to get healthy... Disgusting!!" ;) Screw 'em!!

Don't let others deter you. People are typically so engrossed in their own workouts, they could care about anyone else. Put on some headphones and get in your own world. Don't know how to use a piece of equipment, ask someone! I get beet red and sweat drenched, but I feel better and don't care what others think!

Other than softball, I was the same way about not having run. I started slow and have worked up to my 20 mins. Some of it is endurance, but a lot of it is mental! You can do it!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
