Dizzy

Recommended Posts

I am 4 months out and have been getting dizzy a lot. It was first just a couple of times a day but now it's happening every time I stand up. Any ideas on why this is happening?

Are drinking enough Water? Call your doctor to be sure.

Just brought this up to my nutritionalist today. Not enough liquids, not enough Protein, blood pressure could drop or since I am diabetic could be low blood sugar. There is a list now we have to figure it out.

Have any meds been skipped? That happened to me when I quit taking one of my meds after surgery and forgot to start it back up.

I am not on any meds so no problems there. Am working on getting my fluids up and will see If that helps. I usually get about 32-40oz a day which I know isn't enough.

I know that I am reiterating what others have said, but really make sure to get in your Water & Protein. I will be 4 months out in about 9 days. I have found that at this stage you have to concentrate more. In the beginning I was trying to really take care of myself, heal properly, etc. that I stuck to the rules very closely. Being just almost 4 months out if I get busy it is VERY easy to skip meals & liquids. On Saturday I was putting away groceries & I got really dizzy & truly felt like I was going to pass out. Luckily my BF was home & I just held onto the refrigerator door while he grabbed a chair for me to sit. His first two questions were, "What did you eat today?" & "Have you been drinking your water?". My answers were "Nothing" & "No". It really makes all the difference in the world. We have radically changed how we eat, but it is important that we make sure that we are nourishing ourselves. I laid on the couch the rest of the evening & drank water & got in a Protein Shake. It is just as important now as it was the day after surgery to take care of ourselves. It is a learning process. The human body can live for over 3 weeks without food, but only 3 days without any water. That is how important it is to our bodies. So, be well!

I am 4.5 months out. I get dizzy everytime I get up from laying down. I'm ok with the sitting part and then standing, but I get super dizzy when I stand up after laying down. My Dr. just said to get up slower? She didn't seem overly concerned about it.

Getting dizzy or seeing stars when getting up doesn't necessarily mean anything "bad". Gravity plays a part in it. Getting up quickly can cause blood to rush from the brain and head down, and then your body recovers by pumping more blood harder in to the area, which causes dizziness and the little shooting stars. I used to jump up and have this sensation, I thought it was cool when I was young, until I went in and saw my doctor and questioned him about it. He explained it's not always something bad, could just be physics and the way your body handles that sort of issue. Obviously if you pass out or it seems to happen everytime there could be some other issues going on. I've noticed after I wake up I get dizzy easily, but after my Protein in the morning I feel perfect. I keep a bottle of Water on my night stand and try to drink half of it before bed to help with that.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
