Liquid diet cheaters

Well I completely understand bigsleeve, I'm disappointed in myself. I'm here now at the doctors office and I have to come clean. I know your being honest and I really appreciate it, I should have had more self control and I would not have done what I done.

I must say that the hardest part I had is when I was at work and my partner (law enforcement) ate at McDonald's, he told me to stay my fat ass in the car. He wasn't being mean, but I told him to do whatever to keep me from eating. He tried, tried hard, but when the conscience is talking to you telling you "eat, I'm starving", and your own stomach feels as if it's eating itself, I made a choice to eat something. I must say I had enough control not to eat a Big Mac, fries, and 2 extra Mcdoubles, well that's what I usually got to make me happy. Why all that, well because it's free for us, and my stomach even still wasn't satisfied.

I must say today has been better, I had 1/2 bottle of Applemellon Isopure, and a whole bunch of Water. Nothing else, and knowing that more than half the day is gone, I know I can do it. I walked/jogged/ran with my dog for about 3 miles.

Yes, I also did at least 4 Protein shakes a day, but I was allowed a salad with lean Protein for dinner.

It's hard, no doubt about it. But it is so worth it. Also remember, what goes in, must come out. Imagine having to push a couple of McDoubles out after stomach surgery ... not going to be fun.

I've been dreaming about eating salad! I called my NUT today just to confirm salad wasn't on my list... It's confirmed :(

So you didn't have to drink liquids for 3 days prior to surgery??

Just to be clear, that poster was a very low bmi if I remember correctly. I also was low bmi and while I had a prediet, it was not a liquid diet nor was it terribly strict. The difference being I wasn't as heavy as people who have this surgery should be so my doctor was easier on me. I was limited to 40carbs a day (which included wine) and nothing else was focused on. Dream preop? Sure it's a nice one, but I had much much less to lose than others so my liver wasn't as badly damaged (fatty) because of it.

Do not compare yourself to others. YOU NEED TO FOLLOW YOUR DOCTOR!!!! Your doctor chooses a path which is geared towards YOU being successful in this surgery, just as mine did. Your journey is not mine though and as such following my path might harm you.

JC,

I'm hoping that all will turn out well for you. It is hard to make the transition from food to liquid. But please try some additional Protein drinks. The Isopure is good with a little Crystal Light in it. It gives a different taste, if you are able to have it. I have just ordered Premiere Protein and they are good! 30 grams of protein. You will want to build up your stores, IMHO.

Much success to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
