Wow! He actually said that it was none of your business? You have every right to see those credentials!! I still haven't narrowed it down to which surgeon I want. I'm so confused. Still. I start feeling confident with one, then I read something that makes me change my mind. This is an extremely hard decision! I just want to make the right one :/

I am using Dr. Lopez Ortega as well, if you decide to go with someone else, please let me know, I would love to hear what made you change your mind!

I wish you would post it since a lot of us are trying to make a choice and need to hear ALL sides to the story. I was going to go with Dr. Illan and learned that all of his credintials were phoney. He is a doctor but he is not a surgeon and has NO documentation...All the associations he claims he has' date=' when I called them, he was not listed...When I asked his coordinator Omar for copies of his certificates I was told that was none of my business. SOOO it would be nice to hear ALL sides of the story. I am going to Mexico as that is ALL I can afford. I just want to make the best possible choice with all the information there is out there. I realise some people have great stories and others not so great. So please post.[/quote']

I went to Dr. Illan and loved him! Don't believe everything you read.. I actually ask Omar about this and he said nobody aka You have ask to see his documents. Which I believe cause when you said that Omar said that I don't believe it at all! So i sure did ask. that Just don't sound like him at all. However they are in the process of scanning and updating his documents as soon as he gets out of surgery today due to this. So hopefully that clears everything up.

I will add its funny you have 3 post and they are about dr Kelly and Dr illan... Right after the fact a certain person got banned.

I don't know where you got your information or if you got Dr Illan's name incorrect, but that's simply not true. I didn't verify every single association, but I was able to research and find credible information about him and his education. Furthermore, he worked directly with another popular surgeon located in Tijuana.< /p>

I don't presume to know the exact conversation you had with Omar, but I find it hard to believe he was as rude and dimissive as you portray.

I'm not trying to change your mind or anything, I'm just saying that while you may not be familiar with his credentials or comfortable with him there are plenty of people on this forum that have chosen him and had great experiences.

I haven't had any personal experience with any of those too doctors (Dr Almanza and Dr Illan) directly but to me what scared me was that he (Dr Almanza) operates out of a clinic and not a hospital, I wanted a hospital and for what I paid for my sleeve 4500 I didn't see a benefit in paying more to go to a clinic and find out first hand if all the stories that I read are true or not. I know (when I called his coordinators told me he has more experience then most doctors because he does more surgeries then others in a day) he does more surgeries then most surgeons but then that also leaves more room for error I don't want a surgeon thats going to be so confident on him self that he will be on cruise control while doing my surgery I'm sure he is a great surgeon but to me the hospital sold me first and second was that my surgeon only does a max of 5 a day on RARE occasions he goes up to 7

The reasons why I chose dr Ortiz might be the same reasons why someone else might not choose Dr Ortiz, in the end we all have to do our own research and choose the surgeon that we feel will meet our personal needs

As long as we all make it to the other side of the wls safely that's what matters in the end

My patient coordinator that I'm using now said that Dr Almanza is a great surgeon. I was originally going with him but backed out because of the clinic he works out of. I think your right though...in the end we have to choose the best surgeon that fits our needs.

You are correct my mistake Dr Illan does work out of a full hospital and he trained under Dr Kelly witch I have only read good things about, guess I was typing on cruise control lol, I'll fix my comment, I don't want people to think he works out of a clinic

Thanks for the heads up

I must say Janese at alghterme.com is very prompt with getting back to you when you have questions. I originally had Dr Elias Ortiz confused with Dr. Ariel Ortiz. So now I have been back tracking and looking into some other doctors. Janese has quoted me the best price and I am following one of his patients to see if he has a great experience as well. I didn't realize that Dr Elias Ortiz gives you a private room with room for your husband and a private bathroom, that is a plus.

It is so great to have this forum and here others experiences. :)

I'm in the hotel right now waiting to have surgery and I have to echo everything you said up to surgery ( bc it hasn't happened yet.). When I booked with Alighterme I was concerned bc their prices are extremely reasonable compared to others. Since working with Ronda, Janese, and now Abraham I can't say enough good things about my exp so far. I pray it continues but trust it will. I'm sorry to hear about the other bad or potentially bad experiences. Some may say that seeing everyone going to one Dr. Makes you think that they are great but I cautioned when I saw almost 20 people going to the same Dr. In one thread. Can't say their bad though.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
