I'm Colby and I've been lurking for a while so I decided I should go ahead and introduce myself. I've just started the process. I went to a seminar a few weeks ago. Found out that my secondary insurance covers the surgery (thank you mama!) and decided on the sleeve.

I'm 22 (23 in may), married to a wonderful and supportive man, brandon and we have two beautiful daughters. Amira will be 3 in June and Isla is our leap day baby. She just turned one. We live in Lubbock, Texas.

I've been overweight since I was about 13 but now it is out of control. I'm 5'6 and weigh almost 300 pounds. It really makes me sick. Everyday is a struggle for me. I don't know how I'm living like this.

I just buried my uncle who practically raised me. He was almost 500 pounds and died heart failure and a stroke. He had two twin boys who recently tried to join him if you know what I mean...

I just can't be unhealthy and put my family through that. It's not fair to anyone.

My aunt also is in heart failure but she is starting the process to get the sleeve.

Not very many people in my life support me. My husband does of course. I hope that I can find support here.

Sorry if I was rambling, I'm so tired lol

Colby, thanks for de-lurking! A lot of us have had scares like family members and friends who have had severe health issues or died who provided impetus for us to start exploring our options. I think you'll find a lot of support here. It's pretty much like a large, dysfunctional but loving family - you'll run across some bickering and snarkiness, but everyone will cheer you on as you move forward, and be here to offer advice, answers and the occasional dose of tough love that we all need to keep us on track.

Your babies sounds beautiful!

Trish

The more folks from TX the better, Rowlett here. Sorry to hear about your uncle, it's always tough. I lost my mother, she was overweight, then 7 months later we found out my brother passed away after gaining about 100 pounds and other health factors. My whole family is obese, but they'be been very supportive of my choices. I hope you do well on your journey, there is some amazing information and some great people here.

Haha. I've been her my whole life, and wouldn't move out of this state for just about anything. I've thought about buying 200 acres in Arkansas we've been looking at, still might, but won't ever move up there full time, land is just so cheap there and so crazy expensive here. My family is the same, I see my older brother now, and he's about 480, making an effort to change, but I worry he'll stop caring again. We'll see.

I really do too. His son and I have been buying him shoes and some athletic shorts so he has clothes to go walking and such in. He's been doing ok so far.

How far along in the process are you and how much of a wait will you have for the pro op nutrition classes and such?

I literally just started the process. I went to a seminar like two weeks ago. I have an appointment next week. I have to have 3 months supervised nutrition.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
