Hi there to all. :) This forum has been a godsend.:bolt: I have learned so much that I did not know about. It has made me want the sx sooner. Due to work I cannot have it until Jan. I was wondering about right after the sx can you have the noodles in chicken noodle Soup? ? What about grits or oatmeal during the mushies stage?? What about tuna and chicken salad that has been blended in a food processer?? I have been looking at stuff to see what I am going to eat for protien and it is harder than I thought. The thought of losing my hair :paranoid is the only scary part of this whole process.

My hair has been coming out by the handfulls for 2 months. I got it cut about 6 inches hoping that would help and it's still horrible. I have very thick hair so it's not really noticable but boy when I take a bath I have to scoop all of the hair out first.

I could have the tuna and chicken salad and pimento cheese in the processor and it was delicious and really kept me full.

Good luck on your upcoming surgery.

That was my instruction too - if it went through a straw, or if I could make it go through a straw by blending it, watering it down with stock or tinned tomatoes or whatever, then it was fair game.

In that way I ate spaghetti bolognaise, roast beef, even my Christmas dinner during the liquids and mushies phases. I made Soups with lentils and Pasta in it. Much more nourishing and balanced than weeks of yogurt and juice, although I had those too. And it didnt affect weight loss, it was only tiny portions afterall, but I didnt suffer ANY hunger during these stages as the food I did eat was filling and nutritious.

I think the standard for my surgeon was 1 week Clear Liquids (broth, Water, juice), 1 week full liquids (milky - Protein shakes, etc), 1 week mushies (mashed potato, refried beans) and 1 week soft foods (tuna fish, Mac & cheese).

Of course after about 2 days of Clear Liquids I couldn't stand it anymore - because I had zero restriction and I was HUNGRY. I moved up to full liquids after about day three. In the full liquids stage - I would say blenderizing Soup and stuff would work.

During full liquids, I used some refried Beans thinned with enchilada sauce. For mushies - I cheated and blenderized some tunafish. I got the consistencies right - and I suspect that is mostly what matters.

If you have restriction right away - and some people do - it is important to work through the steps so you don't have any PB's while you are still not fully healed up. It takes a little getting used to to wait for that last bite to get where it needs to go before you take another one.

Good Luck! I am sure you will do great.

Try to follow whatever plan your surgeon gives you - and if you are concerned about Protein - use a good Protein shake that you can tolerate. I still use them for Breakfast - just to be sure that in addition to whatever protein I get in the course of my daily life, I also get 18 grams with Breakfast.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
