Oh yuck, I have to call and make my appointment. I overloaded myself with other appointments so I was waiting to finish most of them before moving on.

The Barium Sulfate was pretty yucky but not as bad as I thought it was going 2 be! I guess it helped that I only took a sip when instructed!!!

Yes VivaDiva the doctor only required me to drink as prompted! If I had to consume a big amount at one time, lets just say that the upper GI would have been over!

IKR!!! The doctor would say "take another sip" and I would sip it from the straw, hold it in my mouth then swallow! I don't know what's worst giving blood or drinking barium sulfate!!!!

They put me under conscious sedation to do my endoscopy and I never even knew what was going on. Shame on your doctor!

Ugh. My experience was awful. Also a very full belly and I spent the next 24 hours either vomiting, or praying to vomit. The extreme nausea was so terrible.

My surgeon did endoscopy so if I had a hiatal hernia he could fix that at same time as sleeve. Also he likes to make sure the esophagus is healthy before the surgery. He is so thorough with his care that I have a lot of confidence in him.

An endoscopy is when they put a tube down with a camera to look at your stomach and esophagus. "scoped" Usually you have conscious sedation for it (I don't remember any of mine). I had one because of an esophageal structure, which was diagnosed by a barium swallow.

A barium swallow or Upper GI series is different...that's where you drink the white stuff, sometimes it's thin, sometimes it's thick. It was chalky, but it's didn't taste too bad. Hope this helps with the confusion with the different terms.

My upper GI came back today and I now have to have an endoscopy. May I ask what exactly was going on with your esophageal structure and what it turned out to be after the endoscopy????

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
