I am looking for some positive experiences with Cigna... My doctors office is submitting to my insurance this week and I am more anxious now than i have been the whole last 6 months. Here is what they are submitting

I have a BMI of 40

I am on medication for high blood pressure

PCP clearance

Cardiologist clearance

3 month dr assisted weight management

Eval and recommendation from bariatric doctor

Psych eval and clearance

Only thing that I can not prove is that I have been at a 40 bmi for 24 months or greater... But, no where does my coverage info state that is required.. I am really having trouble with my patient coordinator and I am actually calling and speaking to her supervisor first thing tomorrow morning as she has told me on two occasion that she was submitting to insurance but when I call to Cigna, nothing has been recd.. So frustrated with her.. This process is very stressful and I dont thing she gives a crap..

Thanks!!!

Pray for 8 (approved = 8)

My coordinator submitted on Tuesday but it was not "received" until Thursday. With larger companies it can take a few days to be officially processed and marked as "received" prior to consideration for approval. Of course, I was on pins and needles the whole time and then the day after they received it that department was closed for a companywide event. In the end, all is well and I am waiting to hear back from the doctors assistant regarding scheduling.

I to have done all my requirements. My BMI ranged from 38-39.8. I got dx with severe sleep apnea in Feb, have had OA of my knees for 3 yrs...but no other co-morbities. My surgeon submitted on last Monday and after reading the Cigna threads I think I better call to chi the status. I have a surgery date of April 24. I hope everything works out for you.

Update! I called Cigna on Monday and was told mine was in review. They got everything on April 10th and it would take 5 days to review for medical necessity. The 1st day was the 11th so I I should hear on Thursday. My surgery is a No go if we don't hear from them with an approval by Friday.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
