Bummed...had to postpone my surgery

Recommended Posts

Surgery was going to be on Tuesday, but I had to postpone until May. I am really bummed about it but I really didn't have a choice.

It was a long process to get mentally prepared for the surgery. Trying to stay pumped. I am sure I will fine, just a temporary letdown.

Ugh.. I know how frustrating that can be. I had to postpone by a month back in November. It went pretty quickly and I stayed with my pre-op just to be in the best place I could be when my time came. I'm so sorry you have to wait. I hope it goes by quickly for you.

Stay strong. Good luck!

Thanks for the encouragement! On a side note I used to have a golf ball named Jersey Girl.

Aww...I'm sorry that your surgery had to be postponed, but you know, I'm a BIG believer that everything happens for a reason. May is only a month & a half away! Hang in there! If it makes you feel any better, I have NO CLUE yet when my surgery will be! I have my psych eval tomorrow & my medical clearance appt on Wed. My exercise appt isn't until mid April sometime. The worst part is that if they can't do my surgery over the summer, I'll either have to wait till NEXT summer (oh please dear Lord, don't let that happen to me) or I'll look into going thru a different hospital program. EEK!! Good luck to you!!

Great News! I am not going to have to wait until May. Surgery is on for this Thursday! I am very grateful for a series of fortunate events. Cross your fingers for me!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
