Tomorrow is the start of my pre op testing. I am 10 days out from surgery tomorrow. I am doing my scope tomorrow along with a stress test. The stress test is no biggy. It is the scope that has started worrying me. My doctor keeps his patients awake for it and only numbs the nose and throat. The more I think about it, the more I'm freaking out. Everyone has said they wouldn't do it if they had to be awake. Now I feel like he is doing something wrong... Ahhhh HELP :(

I am on week 2 of my pre op diet and I am also so nervous my surgery is Friday. One thing I will tell you about the scope is, it has been one of the easiest things I have done so far. I was fine no numbing my throat was a little scratchy but that was all. Just prepare mentally for this pre op diet I hate every minute of it. I will be thinking and praying for you ChristieK

Thank you very much!!! I guess I'm just nervous because I will be aware the entire time it is happening. I start my diet Thursday, which is 1 week out. You better believe I'm having some majorly good food Wednesday. Lol

Christie,

I just had my endoscopy two weeks ago, tomorrow. I was completely awake through the procedure. They do a pretty good job of numbing everything. It was not painful at all just very awkward. You'll be fine!

I gotta have something called a manometry test. I guess they run something down your nose into your throat! That's on Tuesday for me. I'm more stressing about that then the surgery next Monday. I'll be so glad when this is all overwith and done!

Please let me know how the manometry test goes. I'll have to have one when I get closer to my surgery and the thought of it freaks me out.

Good luck!!!

Iv had plenty of surgeries, so that's not worrying me. It's the stupid scope. Lol.... You will do fine. They will give you something before you go to the operating room to calm your nerves. "Going to Disneyland" is the best part of surgeries ;) Good Luck!!!

This sounds exactly like what I'm having but they called it an endoscope. They run it thru the nose and throat down to the stomach. Good Luck on your procedure.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
