I just read some of these post. I don't blame you one but rollargirl. A Bmi of 30 - 39.9 indicates moderate obesity. Do what is best for you and what is healthier for you and don't let nobody get you down.

No judgement here, and God knows I am no doctor, but I have sat through a ton of seminars before deciding on this surgery and the doctors are all adamant that a person must have a BMI of 35 to qualify..and with that there must be an accompanying health risk unless your BMI is above 40. Its your body and your money..but it does seem like an unnecessary risk at this point...Just my 2 cents..

Thank you , I don't mind people's opinions at all if they are put nicely! (Like yours)

Again I have been 34 BMI and only lost w diet pills ... I'm at the end of the tether and I am very willing to take this risk knowing all I have learned to make my life more enjoyable! Thanks ????

Thanks Carol! Last week I heard (from children) a single guy was told "no, you don't want her she's quite fat" .... I am obese and have fought for 10/15 years against my weight issues & I'm tired ... I think this tool sounds like exactly what I need - I can't wait! x

Now that is a battle I can understand..my bmi is 43 right now and my surgery is May 3. I am in the preop- mostly liquid diet and the folks around me are asking why i need the surgery if I can lose the weight doing the preop diet..they just don't understand what its like to feel hungry when you know you shouldn't..i lost nearly 100llbs a few summers ago using various diets, HCG shots, adipex..etc..exercised regularly..ate mostly right..but gained almost all of it back in just a few months..tired of this yo yo life..my hope for the surgery is to help me not be hungry for a while so I can truly change my own habits..without relying on a drug...

Oh F me... I read the WHOLE thing... Someone needs to edit one of the first few posts and add "QUIT READING NOW" (once you get to the fighting it's impossible to just stop) haha

Now I need some of that Percocet!! My head hurts. And I kinda want a snickers...

OMG, you said my words, I wanted to stop, I could not, it was like Jerry Springer, but even that I could change the channel on it....I sort of want a snickers too.

We have Drs here that state a BMI of 30 is good to do the sleeve ( with previous genuine failed attempts etc) as it prevents the patient getting to the point where they are in a life threatening weight situation and they're healthier on the operating table to do the sleeve - prevents getting unhealthy to get healthy at an earlier and safer intervention point - I'm just saying basics as there would be other factors looked and psyc consult also involved - but makes sense - u can't have tunnel vision when discussing this subject - u appear negative and obnoxious and a know it all - u need to be more considerate how you put things

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
