Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I am fairly new to this forum. My question is has anybody went through AvMed Insurance? If so, was the 6 months supervised diet complicated?

Hi,

I also have avmed insurance through the state of fl. I had to go to my dr for 6 mos and just had the last visit last week. Waiting on a form from my pcp from 2 years ago stating my height and weight in 2011. Hoping that my surgeon is able to put the request for coverage in this week and will wait and hope. He had me start pre op diet yesterday which consists of Protein Shakes , bars and meat. I'm hoping for surgery date in April. I'm from Orlando, it's been a long six months.

It is so crazy because I know of people that don't do the six months diet and get their surgery so fast.

It may be the type of avmed they have. I have an ***.its six months unless you can prove you did some type of weight loss program like ww or Jenny Craig.

Hello,

Sorry it takes me so long to respond. For some reason at work when I pull this site up it ties my computer up so I can't log on at work. But I checked into AvMed requirements and it mentioned that

1.9.3 Weight loss attempts through programs such as Weight Watchers, Curves, personal trainers, etc., are insufficient to meet these criteria;

so I am still trying to figure this all out.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
