AvMed Insurance

Recommended Posts

Bad news and good news. Today I was denied. BMI is 38.6 and avmed said that at that number I didn't qualify. I'm only on one bp med and to qualify I had to be on three or Have severe sleep apnea and diabetes. Having high cholesterol wasn't on the list or borderline diabetes. Dr was told that if my BMI was 40 I would be approved automatically. Was told that I actually may have to gain weight to qualify.I figured a few pounds ,about 20 ,considering ive dropped a few doing the pre op diet this week. I'm 5-8 and if I was shorter, at my current weight would qualify. So figured that I would see if I was still 5-8 since I'm older , had back surgery and haven't checked my height since forever. Low and behold I've shrunk about an inch and a half which qualifies me. Have appt at dr mon morning .keep your fingers crossed.

I am sorry to hear that you were denied. I am glad to here you still have a chance and hope that your doctors appointment goes well. Good Luck and get that approval. I will be sending all of my paperwork to my surgical coordinator today and all I will be pending is my nutritionist vist which is today and then the coordinator can submit everything to AvMed. Keeping fingers cross for the both of us.

Hi,

Looked up the av med website and you're right. I am a nurse and had a co worker check my height. Sure enough I've shrunk. Spoke to the drs office and they told me it would change things. Wasn't sure if I should continue on the pre op diet or not . Decided not to. Defiantly not wanting to lose weight until after Monday.

Wonderful. Now can they resubmit your paperwork and hopefully approve it this time? I have a question also. Would you consider Quick Weight Loss on the same lines as Weight Watchers and Curves?

Hi,

Went to my Dr. This past Monday to get reweighed. Actually had to gain a few pounds and wore my heavy shoes. Found out yesterday that I'm approved !!!!

Surgery set for next Monday April 8th . Didn't expect it that fast but luckily I had discussed the probability of the surgery dates when I started this journey 6 mos ago with my job so it was approved.one week of the high Protein stuff then Clear Liquids next weekend. Signed consent and pre op tests scheduled for Thurs. gonna be a busy week.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
