Anyone have food stuck in throat feeling?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

Anyone have a feeling of food stuck in their throat? I was having this before surgery and now it is back 2 weeks after surgery. Before surgery I had endoscopy and everything checked out ok. Then I had my gallbladder checked and it was ok. After surgery, it seemed to go away, but now it is back. The solution was to call this GERD and give me prilosec. But it didn't help before surgery and its not helping now. It just doesn't feel like gerd. 1st of all, I'd have to have food in my stomach to have it come back up and since I am not eating that is impossible. 2nd, I wake up with this feeling when my stomach is for sure empty. There is no acidic feelings. It just feels like there is something in my throat, about where my neck meets my chest. After surgery my surgeon said that I did not have a hernia. Any ideas what this could be?

Thanks in advance

oh, I get that...either eat/drink slower...I'm still learning to slow down....not sure why you're feeling it if you have't eaten. I hope you can figure it out.

Could be a stricture. But i think they would have seen it on the endoscopy. Tell your doctor again.

Thanks for the replies. I get this whether I have eaten or not, fast or slow. In fact it doesn't even feel like it it related to eating.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
