Louisiana Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

I'm so glad you asked this! I'm up in Shreveport and scheduled to have surgery next Monday. I've almost been mourning not being able to eat crawfish again this season and now I see that I may get to eat them again this year after all!! I'll take only eating a few just as long as I get to eat them again :) Good luck in your recovery! I can't wait to be there with you!

I'm in the S'port area too...Who is your dr?

Anyone else see a Dr. in Shreveport? I'm narrowing them down now and wondering your recommendation.

I'm using Merriman. Who are the two you are considering?

I used Dr. Merriman. He's good at what he does and he knows it. My husband doesn't care for him too much but I like him. I think it is just a personality issue, I haven't had any complications at all. I went for my 8 week follow up this past Thursday and I've lost 50 pounds since I saw them before starting my preop diet and I think 30 since surgery. His NUT Lisa is good too, I didn't like her as much at first but I really do like her now. As long as you follow their plan you will do great. His plan is a little more difficult and slow going than most people have. Most people are released to eat a "normal" diet at 6 weeks out. I still have instructions for up to 12 weeks and when to add things. I have followed his plan really closely and that may be why I haven't had any trouble. I am so happy with my decision and my progress! I hope y'all also have as good of luck as I have!

I can see where some wouldn't like him because he is a little "know it all" but I personally find that reassuring and he makes me laugh...so whatever. It also is reassuring to me that he takes after care so seriously. I'm glad to hear you are doing well with no trouble :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
