Louisiana Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

@@Whitney1968 I went through the same feeling. Depressed and wondering what did I do to myself! What I can tell you is that this feeling will pass. It's part of the process. I couldn't figure it out before because no one around me at the time had this surgery. Everything that was of comfort to me was no longer an option and I didn't cope well with that feeling. I look back now 10 months later and say wow!!! I'm so happy for this surgery!!attachicon.gifImageUploadedByBariatricPal1440917564.821833.jpg

you just gave me life!
Wow, your photo gave me a boost of encouragment!!!!! Thanks, I needed that this a.m.

Thanks, I'll look it up

I am in Slidell, La. I was sleeved originally on 8-19-15 and had to be resleeved on 8-24-15 due to complications. My doctor is Dr. Michael Thomas. Dr. Matthew French performed my 2nd surgery since Dr. Thomas was out of town.

I wish they would have an in person support group so we can meet, share experiences, recipes and CLOTHES (since we will not be in ant size for too long)!!!!

I'm glad I found this forum and hope to make some friends out of this since we all share something in common.

Hi I was also sleeved by Doctor Michael Thomas in October if last year. So far I haven't had any complications and I'm almost 100 pounds down. If you don't mind me asking what type if complications did you have that required you to be reserved?
I was in extreme pain since the surgery that I was hardly able to make it to my 1st follow up appt. I was so weak I thought I was gonna die. Thankfully, they force me to come in and I had a ride. I could not make it to the Covington office where I was supposed to go. I wouldn't have made the drive. Dr. French was there in the Slidell office, took one look at me and ordered a CATScan and admitted me for another surgery. I had something called 'locked bowels'. I read it only happens in 2%of patients. That was this past Monday. They reluctantly released me on Weds. I have staples in me now and will have them removed on Tuesday.

I am hungry and cannot wait to switch to more dense foods. However, I have just found the BEST Soups ever but am afraid he will tell me to stop eating them because of the spices.

Congrats on reaching your goal. I would love for you to be my mentor of support to get me through this. I am going through a depressing time right now that people warned me about but didn't think it would happen to me.

Hi. Just wanted to say that if you're on Facebook there is a support group there. Its called gastric sleeve support group. Its very very informative and inspiring. Good luck

I am going thru Surgical Specialist of Louisiana in Mandeville. I will meet my surgeon (Dr Redmann) for the 1st time on 9/16. I'm currently in the process of getting my requirements completed. I had my psych eval last week and my sleep study is scheduled for 9/18. Hopefully all goes well and they can send my info to the insurance for approval so I can get a surgery date.

Im from Lake Charles. No one has mentioned Dr.Dominguez in Covington on Northshore? Anyone have expirience with him, or know anyone that has? Thing is...i was going to use Dr.Alveraz in Mexico, he's got major great reviews. I was going to self-pay. Well, Im temporary available for a medicaid card and I found only one Dr in all of Louisiana that accepts it and its Dr Dominguez in Covington, but I can not find ANY reviews, positive or negative? Im at a loss on what to do??? HELP! "/

I don't like the way that place is setup. I didn't like that doctor that's why I went to Alexandria.

I'm new here, hey y'all! In the research phase and praying my insurance will pay. Everywhere I'm reading says BCBS LA doesn't cover the surgery, but my mom was sleeved almost 4 years ago by Dr. Kleinpeter at OLOL and I know for a fact she didn't pay full cost out of pocket so I'm confused. But honestly, I need this so desperately I'd pay full price for it. I'm from Baton Rouge and would go there for the surgery and recovery, but I go to school in New Orleans so I'm hoping I can do my pre-surgery appointments here. Hoping for some answers soon!

Did you have private insurance or medicaid?

Sept. 23, 2015 Sleeve surgery, Liquids. I am really having problems with most of things I can have. They are all too sweet. I have always used a sugar supplement. Anyone have this problem?

Yes, I've had this same "problem" since my surgery last May. I kind of like it because I can't eat sweets like I used to.

Hey guys. I live north of lake Charles and wanted to stay local so I've been working with Dr. Chung in lake Charles. So far he seems legit. He's making me lose 40 lbs before he'll schedule my surgery and despite being on really good LSU insurance I have to pay the 14,000 out of pocket. Anyone used him? Any other near by suggestions for SWLA?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
