Hi everyone. First time here. I am looking for a surgeon on the Northshore area. Covington' date=' Mandeville or Slidell. Will go to New Orleans or Baton Rouge if I need to, but would prefer not to go that far. Any and all input appreciated. The surgeon I wanted to use is leaving his practice. Such a waste of talent. He's an awesome surgeon. Sooooo, that leaves me looking for a replacement. Would prefer someone with privileges at St. Tammany Parish Hospital. I'm so needing to do this for my health. This is a wonderful site![/quote']

Dr Thomas Lavin has offices on the Northshore and he is GREAT!!

@shnyinside check out Southern Surgical Hospital in Slidell. Their website is www.whyweight.com They are on LindbergDr' date=' it's the i10 service road. They have a group of doctors, like 6 of them, that all preform the surgery. Dr Moore did mine and she was fantastic. Their main office in in Mandeville in the Premier Building on the 190 service road near Lakeview hospital and they have a smaller office in Slidell near the surgical hospital. Everyone in the office was great and were accommodating. They do surgery at several hospitals in the area and I was able to choose and had it here in Slidell at southern surgical.[/quote']

I just had my surgery wednesday there and Dr Lavin did it and they was great!!

Dr. Ordoyne is leaving. That is who I wanted to do it. He's going to be the medical director of an insurance company. He will be taking call on weekends, but is leaving full time surgery. Broke my heart! I spoke with him a few weeks ago in the hospital and I believe he was on call and already gone from full time stuff.

I'm looking at Dr. Rachel Moore who is in with Dr. Lavin. They use three surgical centers. One is in New Orleans, one in Covington, and one in Slidell.

Went for my first appointment today for weigh in and spoke with one of the nurse practitioners. Liked all the staff and they seemed to have it together pretty good. I'm going to a seminar in Covington tomorrow night.

It's looking like, if all is a "go", I'll be having surgery in September.

I used Dr. Merriman in Shreveport. He is good at what he does that's for sure! He doesn't have the best bedside manner in the world but it isn't the worst either. His NP Celia is wonderful though!

I love crawfish!! I was about 2 months out when they came into season! I can eat between a 1/2 -1 cup and feel full and satisfied! That's the one good thing about the surgery - although it looks like such a small amount of food, you still feel just as satisfied as eating a full plate! Hope this helps :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
