Shopping for a Dr. in Mexico

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I am just starting this journey. Due to the fact that I don't have health insurance the logical choice seems to be to find a Dr. and hospital in Mexico. I have heard some great things about Dr. Ariel Ortiz and his staff, but am open to any other recommendations or suggestions.:help:

Do your research - Ortiz is awesome - great surgeon - tons of experience but if you go to mexico make sure you have LOCAL SUPPORT as you will need it. No matter what doc you go to - if you have problems LIVING WITH THE BAND - they aren't set up for that (generally) - most patients seem to go home and just drop the pounds but if you are one of those folks who just cant get that tool to do what's it suppossed to do - well, find out what they have in place to help you BEFORE YOU HAVE THE SURGERY. good luck.

He is good but I would also like to recommend mine. He's done more than any surgeon. Dr. Rodolfo Sanchez in Monterrey Mexico. He does his in a hospital, not a clinic. He's done more than 7000 surgeries and not one death and less than 1 percent complication rate. He charges 8500.00 for surgery, preop tests, hospital stay, 2 night stay in guesthouse and transportation. Everything is included and free fills for life. Here is his website. www.ready4achange.com

Please pm me if you have any questions. I also have pictures of guesthouse which is fabulous. They have all of your meals, drinks, supplements, meds, free internet to the states and free phone calls to states. They are fabulous and I have sent 6 people to them so far and no I do not work for them. LOL I get nothing out of recommending anyone except knowing they will be well taken care of.

good luck with your surgery. sounds to me like you chose Dr. Ortiz. i went to dr. huacuz. im happy with all they did for me. did you find a fill dr in your town. you may want to have your lapband dr. give you a fill needle to bring back with you. dr huacuz gave me one and i had to use it when i needed to get unfilled due to a bad gerd attack. my er doc took out some fill for me. the inmed book that comes with your band tells how to unfill. fyi in case you ever need it. im happy with my band. i keep it tight and i have to be more careful in the future to not get the acid reflux. i wasnt eating enough and eating only before bed. not cool. can cause erosion. ask lots of questions and dont rush the weight loss. it will come off. i hope you have a great experience. i did.

Yes, Dr. Sanchez is only taking a chosen few at this point and trying to semi retire. He trained Dr. Zapata. He is great too. Dr. Sanchez has done over 7000 and while I was there told me he was only going to work a couple of half days a week now.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
